Los Angeles Dodgers can accomplish feat done by 22 MLB teams in history in Game 7

With a win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers will become the 22nd team in MLB history to win a World Series Game 7 on the road

The Los Angeles Dodgers can become the 22nd team in MLB history to win a Game 7 of the World Series on the road if they can defeat the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Saturday night.

Los Angeles is favored to win Game 7 with moneyline odds of -148. The Blue Jays, seeking their first World Series in 32 years, are +122 underdogs to prevail at their home stadium.

The defending World Series champions staved off elimination on Friday night in Toronto with a 3-1 victory in Game 6. Less than 24 hours later, they have a chance to complete the series comeback and become the first MLB team to win back-to-back titles since the New York Yankees won three straight between 1998 and 2000.

Saturday night will mark the 41st Game 7 in World Series history, and the first since 2019, when the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros.

Each of the last four Game 7 deciders were won by the away team, including in 2017, when the Astros beat the Dodgers 5-1 to win their first title in franchise history.

Eight playoff runs and three World Series appearances later, and Dave Roberts’ team is back in a winner-take-all decider.

After cruising through the postseason en route to the title a year ago, and losing just one game across three series to reach the fall classic in 2025, this iteration of the Dodgers has limited experience with their backs against the wall.

“This is do or die. You’ve gotta leave it all out there and pick up the pieces,” Roberts told FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal after LA’s Game 6 win.

Of the 21 prior instances of a road team winning World Series Game 7, the Dodgers have just one: the 1965 World Series, when Los Angeles defeated the Minnesota Twins 2-0 at Metropolitan Stadium.

Between 1952 and 1979, there were 16 World Series Game 7s, 13 of which were won by the road team.

Saturday night’s showpiece will be the first World Series Game 7 ever involving the Blue Jays.

However, Toronto does have recent experience defending home field in a winner-take-all scenario, having done so to reach the World Series in a 4-3 triumph over the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS last month.
