Terry Bradshaw delivers bad news to Justin Fields after calling out 'meddling' Jets owner

Terry Bradshaw has praised Justin Fields for guiding the New York Jets to their first win of the season after they beat the Cincinnati Bengals with a stunning fourth-quarter comeback

Terry Bradshaw has hailed New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields and branded owner Woody Johnson as a "meddler" after the former guided the team to their first win of the 2025 NFL season against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On what was an emotional Sunday for the entire Jets organization after the shock passing of franchise legend Nick Mangold, the Jets scored 23 points in the fourth quarter against the Bengals at Paycor Stadium to claim the first win of the Aaron Glenn era.

Following Johnson's public criticism of Fields, which saw the owner question his ability as a passer, the Jets quarterback threw for 244 yards and a touchdown as New York beat the Bengals 39-38. Speaking on FOX, four-time Super Bowl winner Terry Bradshawwho told a hilarious story about how he recently tried to contact Andy Reid — hailed Fields for shutting Johnson up.

"I'm just going to go right to Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Jets," began Bradshaw on the FOX NFL Sunday following the Jets win.

"Woody Johnson, the meddling owner of the Jets, couldn't wait to stick his mouth out this week and call out the quarterback and I'm so happy. I hate it when people do that, especially owners, just be an owner and leave these guys alone. But Justin, hell a job young one. Way to shut him up."

Bradshaw then added that it is not in Johnson's nature to shut up, which could prompt the Jets owner to speak out again about Fields' performances.

"Now, unfortunately, since he called you out, he might call you out again, I don't know," joked Bradshaw.

On what was a poignant day for the franchise following the passing of Mangold, Fields opened up after the win over the Bengals and shared with reporters that the week had been a tough one for him after Johnson's criticism.

"It's been a lot for me emotionally, spiritually. When I was on the field, I was damn near about to start crying, not because we won but because of the goodness of God," Fields told reporters.

He continued: "I'm going to get pretty vulnerable right here. This week, I found myself in my closet crying on the ground, lying down. Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles.

"I felt like I was built to handle that and put in this place to handle this situation, but in that moment, when I was talking to my best friend about how hard it was and not wavering faith-wise, I had just gotten a text from my sister and my stepmom, and it was just an encouraging text to keep going and keep spreading the faith."

And Fields also described Johnson's comments about his play "outside noise." "That’s outside noise, at the end of the day. I get that he’s the owner of the team, but that’s outside noise," said Fields.

"The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches believing in me."
