Kevin Burkhardt actions after World Series blows away FOX NFL Sunday crew
FOX Sports MLB/NFL broadcaster Kevin Burkhardt rushed to Detroit for his Sunday football assignment just hours after Game 7 of the World Series and was praised by the FOX NFL Sunday crew
Less than 12 hours after being on hand to present the Los Angeles Dodgers the World Series trophy after the final out of the thrilling Game 7 between the Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays, jack-of-all-trades FOX commentator Kevin Burkhardt was in Detroit on the call for Lions-Vikings.
Saturday's contest marked the second game of the World Series to go into extra innings — Game 3 went a whopping 18 innings — and ended after midnight east coast time.
Burkhardt features on the No. 1 FOX NFL crew alongside Tom Brady. The FOX NFL Sunday studio crew, featuring host Curt Menafee and panelists Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, and Howie Long, tipped their cap to the commentator pulling double-duty.
"What a Game 7 of the World Series last night," Menafee described. "Extra innings once again, it went into the 11th inning when Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit the go-ahead solo home run. The Dodgers go on to win back-to-back World Series titles."
"By the way, after the game, you see Kevin Burchhardt, our own guy, handing out the trophy in Toronto. After midnight, he then [hucked] down to Detroit, where, 12 hours after presenting the World Series trophy, he is calling the big Lions-Vikings game right here on FOX. Talk about happy to get that extra hour last night. What a job he did."
Strahan jumped in and added further praise. "No one does it better than Kevin," he said. Menafee agreed. " And a great human being as well," he admitted.
Even Brady commented on Burkhardt's resolve during the Vikings-Lions broadcast. "KB, you're running on three hours of sleep?" he joked, before comparing his partner to former NFL and MLB star Bo Jackson.
Burkhardt, 51, started his lengthy broadcasting career as a New York Jets radio play-by-play man. The New Jersey native then joined the tri-state area sports network SNY in a versatile commentating and TV gig.
He joined FOX in 2014 and served on various broadcast teams. Once Joe Buck and Troy Aikman jumped to ESPN on a lucrative deal to call Monday Night Football in 2022, Burkhardt became FOX's top play-by-play caller.
