Screaming student kidnapped from college and gang raped near deserted airport

A college student was allegedly abducted from a parked car and gang raped by three unidentified men in a deserted area near Coimbatore International Airport in India on Sunday night

A 20-year-old first-year postgraduate student from a private college in Coimbatore, India, was allegedly abducted and gang raped by three unidentified men late Sunday night in a deserted area near Coimbatore International Airport in Tamil Nadu.

The horrific incident is said to have occurred around 11 p.m. while the student and her male friend were sitting in a parked car near Brindhavan Nagar-SIHS Colony Road. The assailants reportedly broke the car window, assaulted the friend, and forcibly took the woman to an isolated location where the assault took place.

The victim was later found unconscious and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have formed seven special teams to track down the suspects, who remain at large.

Preliminary investigations suggest the accused may have stolen a motorbike prior to committing the crime. The attack has sparked strong political reactions.

K. Annamalai, former president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, condemned the incident as “deeply shocking” and criticized the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government for failing to ensure public safety.

"The news of a college student being sexually assaulted by three miscreants near Coimbatore International Airport last night, while she was speaking with her friend, is deeply shocking and heartbreaking. I pray for her speedy recovery and strength as she undergoes treatment," Annamalai said in a post on X.

"Since the DMK came to power in TN, incidents like these have shown that anti-social elements no longer fear the law or the police," he added.

In a statement posted on social media, he alleged that anti-social elements operate without fear under the current administration and accused the government of misusing police forces to target political opponents while neglecting law enforcement responsibilities.

"From DMK ministers to police officials, there has been a disturbing pattern of shielding sexual offenders instead of ensuring justice. The DMK government has utterly failed in both preventing sexual crimes and providing safety for women.

"Instead of deploying the police to protect citizens and uphold law and order, the DMK government uses them merely to arrest its critics. As a result, Tamil Nadu finds itself in a state of alarming decline.

"TN CM Thiru @‌mkstalin, who bears direct responsibility for the law and order, must hang his head in shame for allowing the police force to fall to such a pitiable state," Annamalia further added.

This case follows another disturbing incident earlier this year in February, when seven college students were arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

They were accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl they had befriended through a social media platform. The girl was reported missing by her family and later found, after which police detained all seven suspects.
