Woman shares cat's 'adorable' reaction after meeting rescued kitten she found

A cat owner who made the harrowing discovery of a kitten abandoned in a bush has shared the sweet reaction of her own pet after she rescued it and took it home

A cat owner has shared her pet's heartwarming reaction to a surprise new family member. While cats can often become stressed at the prospect of a new companion and take time to adjust, for one affectionate feline, the transition seemed effortless.

"Found this cold little guy in a bush," the cat's owner posted on Reddit, along with a photo of the stray kitten cuddling up to her own cat. "I think my cat has adopted him.

"I was so surprised and happy to see my cat instantly kick into mother mode." It prompted a wave of praise from other Reddit users, applauding the maternal instincts of the cat.

"Love it when cats just decide the baby is theirs," one user commented, including their own picture of a similar situation in their home. A second person wrote: "This is amazing. What a beautiful happening." A third chimed in: "I think your cat has definitely adopted him, how gorgeous."

Whilst a fourth Reddit user added: "Your cat thinks you brought them a baby (which you kinda did), the CDS [cat distribution system] did the right thing waiting for you, no doubt this kitten will have a fully and happy life with all of you."

Others, meanwhile, were eager to know the name of the new arrival. However, the original poster confessed that the kitten was as yet unnamed. "I actually haven't given a name yet," she admitted. "I'm thinking! Any suggestions?"

"My old cat who I loved very much was named Vegas because he always slept in his tuxedo," one person shared. "Maybe name him Vegas?"

Another, noticing the kitten's color, suggested: "Oreo. Thought it played off the black and white perfectly his head looks like a little Oreo kinda." To which the original poster replied: "Oh my goodness! That's great!"

A third also acknowledged the black and white fur, recommending: "Blaze. From Oxford Dictionary: A white spot or stripe on the face of a mammal or bird. Congratulations on the adorable, new, wee one!"

When it comes to introducing new cats to the home, the RSPCA suggests you act "carefully". The charity states online: "When introducing animals to each other (cat/cat or cat/dog) we always recommend that scents are swapped first, before the new pet comes home.

"Share an item of your current cat or dog with that of the new cat while they are still at the rescue center or breeders – this could be some bedding or a toy. Alternatively, take two cloths and stroke your current cat or dog with one and your new cat with the other."

The RSPCA also advises: "Only collect scent when the animals are happy and relaxed, otherwise their stress will be present in their scent. Next, swap the cloths over – leaving one with your new cat and taking the other home to allow your current pets to sniff and explore. It is almost like us seeing photographs of someone before we meet them."
