CBS viewers slam Trump over 60 Minutes interview as he brings printout of 'wars he ended'
CBS viewers hit out after President Trump brought a printout of a social media post claiming he ended eight wars within the first year of his presidency.
CBS viewers fumed after President Trump brought a printout to his 60 Minutes interview about the multiple wars he says he has ended.
During the 60 Minutes interview, his first with the newscast in five years, the president repeated his questionable claim of ending eight wars.
When discussing the ongoing war in Ukraine, the president pulled out a printout from his suit. The folded paper showed a picture of him raising his fist alongside a list of all the wars he claims to have ended. "President Trump: the President of Peace," the paper read. "President Trump ended 8 wars in just 8 months." It comes after the daughter of Trump's doctor made a bombshell claim about his health.
Responding on X to Trump's eight wars claim, one viewer said: "Meanwhile, he’s created wars inside America." Another user pointed out how the Israel-Gaza ceasefire remains vulnerable, as Israel has bombed Gaza over the past week, killing over 100 Palestinians after it argued Hamas has not done enough to return the deceased hostages home.
"He didn't end the Israel and Palestine conflict. In fact, Israel is still doing airstrikes despite agreeing to a ceasefire," the user commented. Trump's claims of ending eight wars during his second term have been questioned by critics.
For instance, the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, which the president argues he has ended, has encountered significant issues since the U.S. brokered a peace agreement in June. According to CNN, the Congolese army and the Rwandan-backed M23 rebel group have since accused each other of violating the agreement by launching attacks and building up troops.
Likewise, another war the president claims to have ended was the conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Nile River. The conflict never escalated into violence, and no peace agreement was ever signed. However, the president claims there would have been a war had he not intervened and brokered a deal.
The president has also previously claimed that no other commander-in-chief in U.S. history, besides him, has ended an active war.
"I don't think any president has ever ended a war, frankly. One war. I did eight of them. Did Bush ever end a war? Do you think Biden ended a war? Biden started wars because he was stupid," the president said last month, responding to a question about a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bringing the Ukraine War to an end.
"Do you think Biden ended any wars? No. I don't think I don't know anybody that ended wars. I ended eight of them, it's gonna be nine," he added.
It comes after a lip reader revealed Trump's furious 3-word question to Melania as he went into a meltdown on board Marine One.
