Everything we know about Sarah J. Maas' new ACOTAR book six

Fans are eagerly awaiting the sixth book in the A Court Of Thorns and Roses book series, and author Sarah J. Maas has given several hints

Sarah J. Maas is one of the pioneers of the “romantacy” genre with her A Court Of Thorns and Roses book series, so it’s no wonder fans can’t wait for the next release.

The first book in the series came out in 2015, but it’s had a resurgence on the powerful reading side of TikTok, called BookTok. Since that first novel, Maas has released five more books in the series, each of which has found success.

The author has other works outside of ACOTAR, including the Throne of Glass and Crescent City series, and in total, she’s sold over 70 million copies. She also happens to be one of the most banned authors in 2025, due to her novels’ graphic nature.

But ACOTAR fans can’t get enough. There is a sixth book in the works, and here’s an update on everything you need to know.

Will there be a sixth A Court of Thorns and Roses book?

The ACOTAR series was originally meant to be a trilogy, but Maas must have found more inspiration for her story, as there are now five books.

She confirmed a sixth book was coming on the TODAY Show in January 2024, and she even hinted at a seventh book.

Maas said, “The next [book] I’m supposed to be writing right now…I know much more about. That’s gonna be the next Court of Thorns and Roses book.”

“The next book in that series, I have the ideas and general, vague thoughts,” she continued.

Maas is contracted with Bloomsbury Publishing to write four additional books. At the time of the press release from 2023, three were under contract.

Is there a release date for the sixth A Court of Thorns and Roses book?

A release date has not been set, but an announcement could come any day now. She revealed on Instagram in July 2025 that she had officially finished the first draft of the book.

"First drafts DONE," she captioned the video. The draft will have to go through several rounds of edits, so the release date will likely be in 2026 or 2027.

What will the sixth A Court of Thorns and Roses be about?

The newest installment of A Court of Thorns and Roses will likely be about Elain, who is Feyre's younger sister. Maas hinted at the new main character in a 2021 Instagram live.

She said at the time she thought the direction of the sixth book “was pretty obvious.” It comes after the fifth book was about Feyre’s older sister, Nesta.

Maas added in a September 2022 LiveTalksLA interview: “As soon as Nesta and Elain came back onto the page in A Court of Mist and Fury, I knew that they would have journeys beyond, like, what the readers were seeing.
