Onyx Storm, the third book in the Empyrean Series, was released earlier this year, and now fans can’t wait for a fourth novel to dive into
The “romantacy” genre has taken BookTok by storm, and Rebecca Yarros has something to do with that.
Yarros is the author of Fourth Wing, the first book in the successful Empryean series that earned her a spot on New York Times Bestseller List. Both the first and second novel, Iron Flame, came out the same year in 2023. The third book, Onyx Storm, was released earlier this year, and now fans can’t wait for a fourth novel to dive into.
Those who love A Court of Thorn and Roses will likely enjoy Fourth Wing as well, and now you can play a Fourth Wing board game. The plot follows Violet Sorrengail, a dragon-riding cadet at a military college who discovers magical secrets about her home.
Yarros has teased that a fourth book is on its way, and here’s everything you may need to know about its release.
Will there be a Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean Series book 4?
A fourth book is on its way, and Yarros has offered several teases about the plot.
At a Disney event, Yarros gave away a few details about the fourth book. She said there is a dragon lying about its name, and popular character Ridoc will get more of a storyline. She also added that Dain and Sloan, who people have been “shipping” since book one, are “endgame.”
Does Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean Series book 4 have a release date?
Not yet. The initial release date was believed to have been January 2026. Yarros, however, denied those rumors.
Yarros has several commitments, likely prolonging the release of the book. She has a contemporary fiction novel called The Things We Leave Unfinished coming out in January 2026. A Fourth Wing TV show is in development at Amazon Prime Video.
When will the Fourth Wing television series come out?
The Fourth Wing television series was first announced in 2023 when the first book was published. There haven’t been many updates since then, and two more books have come out.
In September 2025, the original showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett, creator of the Netflix series Anne With An E, left the production. Amazon found her replacement in Meredith Averill, one of the executive producers of Wednesday Season 2 and The Haunting of Hill House.
Yarros once said in a Variety interview that the production team has the entire story arc from the first book to the anticipated final book in the series, which will be book 5.
She said: “They have the five-book arc and the general big points of what happens in between each book, but they don’t have the specifics between Book 4 and Book 5, because I’m getting ready to go to my crazy plotting board and and plot out every single event that happens in each book, so that I make sure that I’m within my two books there.”
