Netflix issues Stranger Things update that leaves fans saying same thing
After waiting more than three years for the trailer of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, fans of the show were left frustrated by two aspects of Netflix's grand reveal
Fans of Stranger Things have finally been given a glimpse of what they can expert from the supernatural horror show's fifth and final series after Netflix posted its trailer on social media on Sunday (June 1).
"The fight isn’t over yet," the streaming giant penned on X alongside a video preview. "Get ready for the epic series finale of Stranger Things." Viewers have been waiting more than three years for the saga's conclusion, after filming was delayed due to The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike in May 2023 and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike in July 2023.
Netflix's update, meanwhile, revealed the conclusion will be split into three parts, released in synchronicity around the world with Volume 1 dropping at 5pm (Pacific time) on November 26. Volume 2 will debut at 5pm on Christmas Day, with The Finale on New Year's Eve at the same time.
The timings left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans, however, who had hoped to see the end of the story in Hawkins, Indiana much sooner - and all in one go. "What an extreme let down," one X user ranted. "Everybody thought this show was dropping in the summer time. Now we have to wait basically until the end of the year. Not to mention it’s coming out during three of the biggest holidays when the most people are traveling."
A second person agreed, adding: "As much as I love the show, I'm offended by their blatant attempt to hijack holidays that are supposed to be about spending quality time with your loved ones. Here, binge 8 hours of our TV show instead!"
A third individual fumed: "The fact you’re playing one of the biggest finale ever on NYE and your somewhat thought process is 5pm before people go out is The Strangest Thing ever. Do better! I hope people on X voice enough to get you to change that current date."
Whilst a fourth X user suggested the dates could tie in with the storyline, penning: "I’m going out on a limb and they designed the show to go around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s with the Finale as a countdown to the New Year."
Elsewhere, others were unimpressed by the lack of new footage in the trailer, meanwhile. The clip featured a montage of the most dramatic action involving lead characters including Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown), Jim Hopper (David Harbour), Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) aired over the previous four series.
One brief, but highly anticipated new scene featuring the latter, however, excited viewers with his deathly scream of: "Run! Run!" One X user admitted: "This scares me!"
Another shared: "This poor kid has gone through literally hell and back so much already. Heart breaking to see and hear his screams." A third confessed: "I got chills."
Whilst a fourth revealed their Will-centered theory as to how Stranger Things might conclude: "I’ve had the theory from the jump that the kids are playing Dungeons & Dragons the entire time. Everything that has happened is all in Will’s head because he still wants to be a kid.
And similarly, someone else pondered: "There will be a final fight, etc. Then, I believe it will cut back to them as kids in Mike’s basement finishing the D&D campaign they started in Season One. We are watching their campaign play out. They put D&D away and the show ends."
