Miles Teller gives emotional Saturday Night Live speech about losing his home in LA wildfires
Actor Miles Teller has spoken out after losing his home with his wife Keleigh after the LA Wildfires earlier this year, which saw thousands of acres of land destroyed
Top Gun Maverick actor Miles Teller has opened up on the impact of losing his home as he stepped up to present Saturday Night Live.
The 38-year-old actor opened the show as he told viewers and the audience, "SNL has always been one of the more consistent parts of my life. I lived in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Delaware, [New] Jersey and Florida all before I was 12. It gets a little confusing when people ask where I’m from, but that’s what I love about coming here because I have a lot of memories."
Miles continued, 'Honestly guys, I’m so happy to be here with all of you. A lot has happened since the last time that I hosted [in 2022]."
Next, he appeared to get emotional as he then explained the impact of the wildfires in January this year. "A few months ago, my wife and I lost our house in the Palisades fire."
Revealing that he and his wife, Keleigh, 33, were safely evacuated, but did lose their home, he added, "Don’t worry. Seriously, do not worry. We’re doing great. I see you’re up there, baby, but that experience has made me incredibly grateful to have so many places that I can call home. Based on what happened to the last place that I called home, I just want to say there’s fire exits located [around the studio]."
Both Miles and Keleigh have spoken candidly about losing their home, with Keleigh writing on Instagram earlier this year, "To everyone reaching out, I can’t thank you enough, your kind hearts have meant the world, I’ll never forget them.
"Community has come out stronger than I could imagine, Pacific Palisades. I love you beyond measure, you are a little slice of heaven, we will come back stronger than ever.
"If you’re in the L.A. area, PLEASE get out if you can. I wish I grabbed my wedding dress. Wish I did a lot different, but it doesn’t matter, stay safe, get out. There are no words. THANK YOU to the first responders fighting."
Speaking in February a month after the fires, Miles told Watch What Happens Live he was "grieving" years of memories in the house. He explained, "You’re grieving a lot of things. You’re grieving memories that were lost.
"You’re grieving the life that my wife and I anticipated us having, with hopefully having our first children in that house. I know that’s gonna take a while to recalibrate because we just don’t have a place we can go to that just feels like us and our things and our kind of comfort. But, you know, we’ll figure it out."
In the same month, Miles told E! News that he had a rally of support around him and his wife. He said, "Many people have reached out, just either letting us know that they’re there emotionally or people are offering us their place. I’m a Deadhead, and so I’ve had a lot of people reach out to Keleigh like, 'I want to send Miles a Grateful Dead shirt.'"
Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
