Hollywood actor Miles Teller is set to host this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live, with Brandi Carlile featuring as a musical guest. This isn’t the first time the Top Gun: Maverick star has hosted SNL, as he last appeared on the show in 2022, and now he is back to promote his new film Eternity, which also stars Elizabeth Olsen.
While Miles, 38, has become a huge star over the past decade or so, what fans might not realise is that his life could have turned out very differently.
When the actor was just 20 years old, he was in a terrifying car accident which almost cost him his life.
Speaking in an interview with Peter Travers for ABC News' Popcorn With Peter Travers’ nearly a decade ago, Miles opened up about the frightening ordeal.
"My buddy lost control of my car going 80 mph,” he said. “We flipped eight times. I got ejected out the window.
“The car landed and I was just laying like 50 feet from the car, unconscious, covered in blood. My buddy thought I was dead.”
The actor went on to reveal he still has scars from the accident, which occurred between his sophomore and junior years of college.
"I got scars on my face. I still have two rocks in my face," Miles revealed, explaining that Doctors had told him removing the gravel would cause further scarring.
He went on to endure painful lasers for three or four years in order to reduce the scarring on his face, which he said sometimes prevented him from getting acting roles.
Miles revealed: "When I first started auditioning, people were straight up just like, 'Yeah, Miles is a good actor, [but it] doesn't make sense for this character to have scars. They [the scars] used to be really bad.”
However, all of that changed when he met Rabbit Hole director John Cameron Mitchell, who apparently told Miles: “I love it. It tells a secret.'"
The actor would then go on to score several roles involving car accidents, including Whiplash and The Spectacular Now.
Miles’ latest film, Eternity, is a fantasy romantic comedy film directed by David Freyne and produced by A24.
The movie follows a woman who is forced to choose between two men with whom to spend eternity in the afterlife.
Watch Saturday Night Live at 11:30 ET/10:30 CT/8:30 PT on NBC, or stream it live on Peacock.
