Lostprophets pedophile Ian Watkins' brutal cause of death confirmed
An inquest into his death has revealed the cause of death for Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins, who died in prison last week after being attacked in jail. Warning, graphic
The official cause of death for Ian Watkins, the disgraced frontman of Lostprophets, has been confirmed by a coroner. The musician died in prison after being stabbed in the neck, according to a brief inquest hearing.
Wakefield Coroners' Court was informed that Watkins, born on July 30, 1977, was single and serving his sentence at the time of his death on Friday morning (October 24).
Watkins was pronounced dead at HMP Wakefield on October 11 by an attending physician and was identified by a prison officer to a police officer. Coroner Oliver Longstaff stated that it appeared from the documents before him that Watkins had passed away following a report that he had been stabbed in the neck. A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of his death was an "incision wound to the neck." Mr Longstaff noted that two other prisoners had been charged with Watkins' murder.
The coroner suspended his investigation into his death and adjourned the hearing pending the completion of the criminal process, reports the Express.
In 2013, the Welsh singer pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offenses, including the attempted rape of a baby. Prosecutors had described him as a man corrupted by fame, drugs, and power who had committed crimes "beyond imagination".
He was previously stabbed in prison back in 2023, where he was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, were brought to court last week, charged with his murder, but were not asked to enter pleas.
