David Harbour breaks silence on his 'slip-ups' as Lily Allen savages her ex in new album
Lily Allen has released her new album West End Girl, in which she details the breakdown of her marriage to David Harbour, and the Stranger Things star has now spoke out
David Harbour has addressed his "slip-ups and mistakes" after his ex-wife Lily Allen opened up about the end of their marriage in her new album.
The 40-year-old singer released West End Girl last week, with the album revealing intimate details about the heartbreak Lily endured after discovering David had cheated on her. The Stranger Things actor, 50, had a three-year affair during his marriage to Lily.
The former couple split last December after Lily found David's profile on the exclusive celebrity dating platform Raya. With the singer having savaged her ex-husband on her album, he's now spoken out about his "regrets" in life.
Sitting down for a newly-released interview with Esquire Spain, which was done before West End Girl's release, David was asked if there was anything he would change about his life. He admitted it was a tough question to answer, explaining, "You either accept your path completely and realize that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there's truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that."
The TV star also said if he changed one thing about his life, he would end up having to change it all. He added, "If you've never been through anything, what do you really have to offer? If I were to change anything I'd change everything, and just make my life happy and silly and like, whatever, and then I wouldn't be an artist anymore. And that would suck."
Speaking about the next stage in his life, David said he is working on "carving out my own story." The actor suggested he wants to tell stories "that make people feel things that they've never felt" as part of his work before opening up about his personal life.
"Of course there's personal stuff that I want to do, and people that I want to love, and be good to and nurture, things like that," David revealed.
His comments come after Lily sang about her ex-husband's "mistakes" on her new songs. In West End Girl's title track, the singer opens up about an emotional phone conversation, with Lily expressing, "I miss you.
"OK, well it doesn't make me feel great...If that's what you need to do then...I guess. But how would it work? I mean, it makes me really sad but I want you to be happy. I love you."
In the track Deep Thoughts, Lily sings, "I can't shake the image of her naked," before adding, "Why can't you wait for me to come home? This conversation's too big for a phone call. Ruminating, ruminating, I've been up all night. Did you kiss her on the lips, and look into her eyes? Did you have fun? Now that it's done, baby, won't you tell me I'm still your number one? 'Cause you're my number one."
In Relapse, Lily hints at having reservations about the idea of an open marriage, but seemingly going along with the idea regardless. Tennis tells the story of the singer preparing a welcome home dinner for her partner, only to discover texts from an unknown girl on his phone.
"I read your texts, and now I regret it. I can't get my head round how you've been playing tennis. If it was just sex, I wouldn't be jealous. You won't play with me, and who's Madeline?" Lily questions.
