TikTok star disgusts internet as she recreates Lady Gaga's viral meat dress
TikTok star Natalie Reynolds sparked backlash after a viral video of him wearing a Halloween costume mimicking Lady Gaga’s 2010 meat dress
A viral Halloween costume is drawing criticism on TikTok after Natalie Reynolds revealed her latest look, a replica of Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress.
Reynolds posted a short video to her account earlier this week wearing a dress made to raw beef, mimicking the pop star’s controversial outfit from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. "Revealing my official Halloween costume! Do I have the more controversial one?" she wrote in the caption.
The video has amassed over 1.7 million likes, 20 million views, and 120,000 shares. But some followers did not find the dress so appealing. This comes as Heidi Klum's exclusive Halloween party is set to make headlines for out-of-the-box outfits tonight.
"That’s actually disgusting," wrote one commenter. Another responded, "Natalie Reynolds you are hurting me with how much your EATING with these cosplays."
The food account Slim Jim commented, "How do you have every costume," earning more than 53,000 likes.
Not all viewers recognized the reference. "These comments are ridiculous. Did none of y’all see Lady Gaga do this??” one user asked. Another posted an image of Gaga’s original look and added, "People didn’t get the cosplay."
Reynolds’ costume appears to directly reference Gaga’s now-historic appearance at the VMAs, where she wore a dress constructed from raw flank steaks. The design was created by artist Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti.
The dress was widely discussed at the time, sparking outrage from animal rights groups.
Gaga later explained the reasoning behind the look, saying it was a political statement in response to the U.S. military’s now-defunct "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy.
"If we don’t stand up for what we believe in," Gaga said in a 2010 interview, "and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones."
In a later interview with Vogue, Gaga clarified that the meat dress wasn’t simply thrown together. "There was a corset sewn into it," she said. "It wasn’t just meat slapped on me and held together with twine."
The dress was eventually preserved and placed on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Reynolds confirmed to fans that the dress was, in fact made out of real meat. TikTok users remain divided over whether the look is an iconic throwback or a disturbing stunt.
