Elvis banned this one food item from Graceland because it 'turned his stomach'
Elvis Presley was known for his love of Southern food, but there was one type of cuisine that The King couldn't stand and actually banned from his Memphis mansion
Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, was known for his unique culinary preferences, from his infamous peanut butter and banana sandwiches to his habit of eating the same meal repeatedly.
During a virtual tour of Graceland, Elvis aficionado Angie Marchese revealed, "[The King] grew up on good ol' Southern food. He loved meatloaf, mashed potato, fried chicken...mac & cheese. Anything that he grew up on was some of his favorites."
Indeed, Priscilla Presley, Elvis's ex-wife, remembers a time when he ate meatloaf and mashed potatoes every day for six months.
However, there was one type of food that the King absolutely detested and even prohibited in his Memphis home, reports the Express. Angie disclosed, "Anything but fish. He didn't like the smell of fish being cooked in the house. There was never any fish in the house."
Elvis's cousin Danny also confirmed this on his Memphis Mafia Kid YouTube channel, saying, "I think it was pretty much the smell.
"He didn't care for the smell of seafood. He didn't like the strong smell of onion and garlic. There was just something about those things that he just didn't care for... It turned his stomach or made him [feel] sick kinda like a lot of us."
Interestingly, his father Billy, who knew Elvis before he became famous, recalled that the star also despised fishing.
In a past video, Billy revealed, "I couldn't get Elvis to go fishing. He just wouldn't do it. I can only remember him going fishing twice really and that was just briefly. Most of the time he just sat around and walked up and down. He wouldn't fish."
Elvis' other beloved foods included bacon and mustard sandwiches, crowder peas, hamburger steak, fried peanut butter and Krystal hamburgers. Angie also divulged that The King's top dessert was undoubtedly Mom's Chocolate Cake.
