Donald Trump sets sights on Seth Meyers as he accuses him of 'illegal' behavior

The president has a new target in his ongoing feud with late-night television hosts.

On Saturday, Donald Trump set aside his lengthy dispute with Jimmy Kimmel and shifted his focus to NBC's Seth Meyers.

President Trump claimed on his social media platform that Meyers' critical commentary about him is "probably illegal."

Trump unleashed a barrage of comments on Truth Social, directly targeting Meyers. "Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to 'perform' live in the history of television," he wrote. "In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise." Trump went on, "I watched his show the other night for the first time in years. In it, he talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers, which I complain about as not being as good as much less expensive steam catapults. On and on he went, a truly deranged lunatic."

Trump pressed further, questioning, "Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this? ? ? NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL! ! !".

The assault on Meyers arrives during Trump's broader offensive against multiple late-night television hosts. His beef with Jimmy Kimmel spans years, particularly after Kimmel ridiculed Trump's political stances and public image.

As an example, media outlets observe that "while Kimmel has, like many other late-night hosts, often lambasted Trump...their long-standing feud is undeniably a focal point."

In July 2025, Trump celebrated the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's show on CBS, writing, "I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings," and "I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!".

After Colbert's axing and Kimmel's suspension from ABC over remarks about a conservative activist's death, Trump ramped up his demands for networks to dump hosts he considers antagonistic.

When ABC shelved Kimmel's show indefinitely, Trump posted, "Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done."

He continued, "Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that's possible," before targeting Fallon and Meyers. Seth Meyers has now become the focus.

Based on recent reports, Trump declared that Meyers ranks among "the least talented Late Night television hosts out there...He has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child."

Trump's "probably illegal" remark suggests he believes negative coverage from talk-show hosts might constitute criminal behavior, though no supporting evidence has been provided.

The chain of events involving Colbert's termination, Kimmel's suspension and Trump's public pressure for dismissals has sparked voter concerns about network influence, free speech, and censorship in broadcast television.
