CBS viewers slam Trump for claiming ICE raids 'haven’t gone far enough' in shock interview
After being questioned by Norah O'Donnell on the treatment of numerous detained people, President Donald Trump went on to claim that 'many of them are murderers'
President Donald Trump appeared on the CBS network to participate in a now-viral 60 Minutes interview, covering topics such as China, Venezuela, and immigration.
Recorded on Friday, October 31, the interview with Norah O'Donnell aired on Sunday, November 2, and marks the president's first interview with 60 Minutes in five years. It also aired after a $16 million settlement between Trump and the network, after he sued, alleging deceptive editing of a Kamala Harris interview on 60 Minutes.
In July, CBS's parent company, Paramount, then known as Skydance, agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit filed by Trump over his claim that CBS deceptively edited a "60 Minutes" interview with his Democratic presidential opponent, Kamala Harris, the previous year.
However, following his latest bombshell interview with the network, Trump has come under fire from viewers for his comments about ongoing ICE raids.
The president's administration has been holding numerous raids across the US, spearheaded by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. These raids have caused significant backlash from the community, with several videos being shared showing the treatment by ICE officers of detained individuals.
Speaking on CBS, host Norah O'Donnell said, "Americans have been watching videos of ICE tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighborhood, and the smashing of car windows. Have some of these raids gone too far?"
However, shockingly, POTUS replied, "No, I think they haven't gone far enough."
Further referring to an incident in Manhattan where a woman was tackled to the ground inside the halls of an immigration courthouse in front of her two young children, O'Donnell, 51, asked the president whether he was "okay with those tactics."
"Yeah, because you have to get the people out," Trump falsely claimed. "Many of them are murderers."
The 79-year-old was then queried about the majority of those detained and deported being "landscapers, nannies, construction workers," however, he responded, "Landscapers who are criminals."
Following the release of the bombshell interview, CBS viewers took to social media to share their thoughts about Trump's comments.
"Reporter got his ass. Asked him about the people ICE is taking, landscapers and such, and he said they’re criminals lmao okay Dementia Don," one person wrote on Reddit, as a second penned, "Trump is incapable of self-reflection and thinks apologizing makes you weak. He is going to double down no matter what."
A third Redditor also added, "This administration will go down as the most inhumane and cruel in US modern history. They want the ppl to fight back so they can have a total police state. Folks, chaos is what they want!"
