Blood and Ash author goes to extreme lengths to keep vampires away with new garlic-infused book
Fantasy author Jennifer L Armentrout spoke exclusively to The Mirror US about her special new edition of her latest book specifically designed to keep away vampires
Some may say reading and food don't go together, but one author thinks they're the perfect mix.
Jennifer L Armentrout authored the booktok hit Blood and Ash series. The most recent book, and sixth in the series, The Primal of Blood and Bone, was released on September 23, 2025. The author describes her series as Game of Thrones with supernatural beings in it. Similar to GoT, the book series is optioned for a television show, but details are sparse.
Some of the blood thirsty monsters in the series, the Craven, can easily be kept away with garlic, similar to vampires. In honor of the sixth book, Jennifer collaborated with Hellman's Mayonnaise to release "The Primal of Blood and Bone: Craven-Proof Edition" on October 1.
This Craven-Proof edition is infused with the flavor and scent of Hellmann's Garlic Aioli. It's even printed with real garlic ink. In an interview with The Mirror US, Jennifer said she recently received the books and claims they actually smell like garlic.
"I'm pretty sure it's the world's first vampire book printed in garlic," she said. "And I'm probably sure it's the first book printed with garlic ink."
When she got the call from her publisher about the collaboration, Jennifer was "caught off guard." She added, "Who would have thought that? I mean, I never thought in my entire life I would ever be partnering with a mayonnaise company.
"But once I heard the idea, it was perfect, especially with the book clubs. And, you know, one of the things I know I do as I read is I snack," she continued.
"So it is a perfect blend of bringing those two things together, but I was caught off guard because it's just not something I ever expected."
Jennifer said she was involved in creating the Craven-proof book, helping make sure "it was authentic to the series." There are also recipes available for fans that include the garlic aioli, like the Casteel-erole, The Primal Platter, and Garlic Sliders of the Ascended—all nods to Jennifer's hit series.
The author hasn't tried any recipes yet as she's been on the road promoting her book, but she's set to make one soon with her friend and is excited to try the Casteel-erole.
Fans can buy the Craven-Proof edition of the book and find the recipes at HellmannsCravenProof.com.
