Ben Affleck makes defiant public appearance after shock dating confession
Ben Afflect, 52, attended the premiere of The Accountant 2 in Los Angeles just days after he seemingly made a dating confession as he compared himself to his character, Christian
Ben Affleck has been seen in public for the first time since making a shock dating confession following his divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
The actor, 52, looked elegant as he posed for photos in a navy suit at the premiere of The Accountant 2 in Los Angeles on Wednesday. He joined co-star Jon Bernthal, 48, on the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre in LA.
Fellow cast members at the premiere included Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, J.K. Simmons, Robert Morgan and Grant Harvey. The new movie, which will be released in the US on April 25, centers around Christian Wolff (Ben) and his brother Brax (Jon) - and tells the story of how Christian, a forensic accountant, tries to solve the murder of Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson).
The plot takes place eight years after the events that took place in the first installment, The Accountant. Ben's appearance at the premiere comes just days after he appeared to be reflecting on dating as he drew comparisons between his character, Christian, and himself.
During a recent press junket with director Gavin O'Connor and his co-star Jon, Ben talked to Page Six about how Christian is figuring out dating and going outside of his comfort zone. "Here's a guy who's trying to figure out - he wants to have a relationship with a woman, he's trying to figure out how to do that, like, how to put yourself out there," Ben said.
"You know, he's not comfortable extending himself. He doesn't really know how to flirt, exactly. He's not comfortable," he continued before stating it's a relatable feeling for "so many of us." He added, "It's not easy for anyone figuring out relationships, particularly at the very early part, where you're trying to gauge, 'What does this signal mean? Is this person looking at me? Do they like me? Am I going to humiliate myself if I go over there?'"
The actor and producer then went on to applaud his character in the film for making the effort by line-dancing during his date and called it "kind of a lovely thing." Ben joked about his line-dancing skills, "I probably am not going to get a lot more demands for my line-dancing work [in movies]. I don't know. The phone hasn't rung yet."
Ben's admission comes just months after he and J.Lo finalized their divorce. In 2021, the two had rekindled their relationship that began in 2002 and ended in 2004 after calling off their engagement. This time around, the couple got engaged in April 2022 and tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, before having a wedding ceremony with friends and family in Georgia in August 2022.
The Get Right singer filed for divorce from Ben in August 2024. In March, Ben spoke to GQ about the divorce for the first time. While the Good Will Hunting star did not specify the reason for the split, he just assured that there was "no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue."
"The truth is, when you talk to somebody, 'Hey, what happened?' Well, there is no: 'This is what happened.' It's just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do," Ben said.
