How To Install Magento Extensions?

There are various types of Magento extensions which are classified into
two main categories:
1.Magento Core (Extension that are created by Magentocommerce team)
2.Community Extensions (Free Magento Extensions)
3.Commercial Extensions (Paid Magento Extensions)
As per the individual requirement, you need to choose any Magento
extension to install. Once you determine about which extension you want to
install, just follow below given steps for installing the Magento extensions.
Types of Magento Extensions

Commercial Magento Extensions are not sold via Magento Connect but you
can browse those extension and to install you need to visit merchant site.
When you buy any of these extensions, the merchant they will send a zip file
containing complete installation instruction and the source code of that
extension.
However, all these commercial extensions are developed by various
companies so their installation method might differ from the other. So, you
need to find installation guideline at merchant site.
Installing Magento Commercial Extensions

Visit: Admin area > System > Cache Management, “Refresh”
option in the “All cache” drop-down and click “Save cache
settings” button.
You can easily ask for support if you find the extension installation very
difficult. Most of these Magento extension merchants available either Free
or Paid.

For installing Free Magento community extension from
Magento Connect, follow given steps in next slides (Advance
users should avoid few steps):
Install via Magento Connect Manager (Community Edition)

STEP 1 : Browse magento extension archive for selecting the community
extension OR, If you remember the exact URL of your desired extension just
open this Magento connect URL

STEP 2 : Now, you will see a
button right under the theme image
called “Get Extension Key”. You
should Click on this button and
agree to license agreement about
that Magento extension

STEP 3 : After selecting agree checkbox and click “Get Extension Key” you
will see Magento extension key. You should paste this extension key in your
store’s Magento connect tab. Keep it safe

STEP 4 : Copy this Magento extension key. For example, It
will see as “magento-community/Mconnect_Productribbon”

STEP 5 : Install this Magento community
extension into to Magento eCommerce store for
that you need to login to store admin panel and
select System-> Magento Connect-> Magento
Connect Manager

STEP 6 : Then, Magento connect manager will ask you to login. To login
into the system, you need to use your store admin login id & password to
get past the login screen. You should paste the same “extension key”
which is copied from the Magentocommerce.com

STEP 7 : Now paste the same “extension key” which is copied from the
Magentocommerce.com

STEP 8 : After that, Installation process will begin and after successful
install it will display a message. You should click on “Refresh” button to
check whether the extension is installed or not
STEP 9 : However, if the extension required any type of post installation
configuration then you must read & follow the documentation provided with
the extension
STEP 10 : After following all these step Magento extension is installed and
Ready to use

WinZip or WinRAR software
l
Your Merchant's Magento extension package file
Install Magento Extension from FTP/SSH

STEP 1 : Download the extension package ZIP File.
STEP 2 : Unzip the extension package ZIP file
STEP 3 : Upload the extension file
Please connect to your website using FTP or SSH and upload
the entire ‘app’ folder into the Magento store root. The upload
will be done in few minutes.

DONE!
You must need to refresh the cache for first time use only.

System > Cache Management
