Summary

Scilit provides support for publishers to upload XML-tagged metadata or XML-tagged full-text data for their publications directly into Scilit, thus ensuring timely, full, and accurate coverage of their publications. The minimum requirement for uploading data is that each article must have a DOI number registered with CrossRef. Before allowing a publisher to upload data to Scilit, we will review the publisher and its publications.

As a Scilit Publishing Partner, you can expect the following:

  • Ensure data quality: Showcase your correct publisher data, like the basic data of publications and journals, and aggregated totals of publications and OA publications.
  • Enhance visibility: Showcase your published works and track real-time statistics, increasing the visibility of your content and your company's influence within the scientific community.
  • Receive timely support and assistance: We will ensure your content stands out with seamless integration and offer priority service to promptly resolve any issues that may arise.

Currently, over 350 publishers are uploading their XML data to Scilit, and we highlight a few of our collaborative Publishing Partners here.

How to be a Publishing Partner with Scilit

1. Pre-Registration Checklist and Considerations

Verify Existing Indexing: Before beginning the registration process, please confirm whether your journals are already indexed in Scilit. You can check our journal list. If your journals are already listed, there is no need to register a separate publisher account for indexing purposes only.

Data Completeness Review: We highly recommend reviewing the key metadata elements outlined in the “Enhanced Metadata” sections before submitting your application. If you have already provided comprehensive metadata to CrossRef, you may not need to resubmit it. However, supplementing your deposits with any additional data not present in your CrossRef records is strongly encouraged to maximize the discoverability and visibility of your publications within Scilit.

Publisher Accounts Only: Scilit only accepts registration from publishers. Account applications submitted by individual journals will be rejected. Please ensure the application is made by a representative of the publishing organization responsible for the journals.

2.Registration

Before uploading XML files directly to Scilit, publishers need to request an account with Scilit by filling in this form and providing the required information:

  • A valid e-mail address affiliated with the publisher. The email address should, where possible, use the same domain as the publisher’s website. Gmail and other public email services should be avoided.
  • The password that you would like to use for logging in.
  • The official publisher name.
  • The official publisher website link.
  • Your CrossRef Member ID. You can use the CrossRef REST API to search for that information.

Here is how you can search:

  • Use the following API endpoint: https://api.crossref.org/members?query=<organization_name>
  • Replace <organization_name> with your publisher name.
  • The API will return JSON data that includes the member ID associated with your name.

3. Validation

When the registration form is submitted, an email will be sent to the provided email address. You will have to validate your email address/account by clicking on the link provided in the email. Once your account is validated, the Scilit team will check your registration form. Scilit staff may require publishers to provide more information or may reject the application for an account. You will be notified of the decision by email. Scilit may discontinue the indexing service or any of the publisher accounts at any time without prior notice (e.g.,publishers that cease activity or when DOI links now point to hijacked websites).

4. Data Delivery

4.1 Data Delivery Methods

Scilit offers two solutions regarding data delivery:

1. Web Portal Upload

  • Suitable for: publishers with smaller publication volumes (<500 articles/month) or those who prefer a manual upload process.
  • Once you successfully register, the web upload link will be provided in the confirmation email we send you.

2. SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol)

  • Suitable for: publishers with large publication volumes (minimum of 500 articles/month) or those who prefer an automated upload process.
  • If you prefer to use SFTP, please contact our support team at [support@scilit.com].
  • Dedicated private SFTP account provided by Scilit.
  • Automated daily/weekly/monthly content feeds.
4.2 Data Delivery Formats

Scilit strongly favors the use of open standards, and we thus strongly encourage publishers to send their full-text XML data in the JATS format to Scilit.

Other formats, namely DOAJ XML , PubMed XML, or CrossRef XML are also possible.

Scilit would like to receive the metadata for all backfiles. Newly published content should be sent to Scilit in a timely manner. Publishers may choose to send XML files individually or in a ZIP file (e.g., one ZIP file per issue).

4.3 Data Delivery of Metadata

Required XML Metadata

While the complete full text is not mandatory, the XML submission must include, at a minimum, the article-level DOI number and article title.

Enhanced Metadata (Better to Have)

To maximize the completeness, discoverability, visibility, and accessibility of articles within Scilit, we strongly encourage the inclusion of additional metadata beyond the minimum requirements. The following enhanced metadata elements, detailed in the list below, significantly improve the overall impact of your publications:
