the 96 and later 4L60E (bolt on bellhousing) has a different bellhousing to mount length from the 1 piece case version. They moved the mount pads from back of the case to the tail housing. The 1 piece case version has the same dimensions as a 700R4. Then on the LS version they added 5/8" to the depth of the bellhousing to accept the 300mm torque converter. That pushes everything back even farther. look at Holley's web site for crossmembers on the S10, they show 2 different models. 1 for the 700R4 & 1 for the 4L60E. Even that is a little misrepresented (ask @Rhotpursuit ) I think he had a slight issue with his crossmember.

The issue is like you said...different lengths. We made an adapter for the trans mount. I haven't looked at the Holley site lately to see if they have a different crossmember for the sbc 4L603, but they did add the disclaimer after we went around for a few weeks. We thought we could get away with the disc mounts on the crossmember for a 700R4...nope. Of course, after we made the mount, they have this adjustable mount. little spendy, but it looks like it would be a good fix.

The newer 4L80E from a 2500HD is shorter than the earlier ones: 31-15/16 in. Only 3/4" longer than a 4L60E LS version: 31-5/32 in. Although it still does require a different spline count on the yoke and the trans mount is 2-1/2 inches farther back on the 80.

I ordered a crane scale when it comes in and when I get time I'm going to weigh my 5.3 lm7. I also have a 4.3 all it's missing is the intake I will weigh that also and post. That way have a better idea what the true weight of the engine is. That way I know if I need to put different springs in the front end for the weight difference.

Mine stayed the same...or at least so close I couldn't tell. Just a touch over 3200 lbs

Why not, I do have a 2004 4.3 4l60e and a 2006 5.3 4l60e no fluid in them but that's only about 10 to 15lb difference without it. So that should give an approximate weight + or - 30 lb. But I'm still waiting for the scale to come in.
