Dolores “Dodie” Healy

Dodie was born on December 17, 1928 in Stockton, CA and passed quietly in her sleep on January 25, 2022 at the age of 93 years. She was born and lived in Stockton for 91 years. Dodie lived in Napa, California to be with her family for 2 years prior to her passing. Dodie is survived by her son, Rick Healy, daughter-in-law Brigitte Zimmerman-Healy, Granddaughter – “love of her life” Savannah Healy, Daughter - Jill Healy, and 7 nieces and nephews. Dodie is predeceased by her husband – Hank Healy passed in 2011 and her sister Charlene MacDonald.

Dodie graduated from Stockton High School in 1947 and graduated from San Joaquin Delta College in 1978 AA (Interior Design). She was also one of the top woman bowlers in Stockton during the 50, 60 and 70’s. In 1995 –Dodie was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the City of Stockton by naming the West Softball Diamond at the Oak Park Softball Complex “Dodie Wilson Healy”. She loved all sports, especially baseball and tennis. Dodie was a woman pioneer in ladies’ professional baseball playing for the Peoria Redwings. Dodie played 1st base and left field (1947 and 1948) in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, aka “In a League of Their Own”. Dodie continued to play professional lady’s softball with two Chicago teams and as a pitcher, throwing a combination of 27 no hitters and one hit games. Known as “Mrs. Healy” for many years at El Dorado Elementary School, she was the lead lunchtime supervisor from 1959-1964. Dodie was elected to the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977 for her accomplishments in softball, professional baseball, and bowling. With her love of sports, she was a Director for the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors for 35 years. She will be very missed by her family and beloved friends.
