During the summer (December - March), we have a few paid positions available for people with applicable skill-sets, as well as several work-trade positions. If you're interested in any of the positions and feel you'd be a good fit, please fill out the application below. Do not apply for a horse guide position unless you have a very strong riding background, preferably with guiding experience. Applicants must be able to commit to the full season (December 1 through end of March).

We do not operate on a fixed schedule; workdays fluctuate with the comings and goings of guest groups and the various happenings around the ranch. We do work long days, but follow the tradition of the siesta, often breaking for several hours during the hottest part of the day. Ranch activities sometimes dictate that we begin our work in the early morning, or work beyond nightfall. Flexibility, motivation, and stamina are a must. We make sure the work is balanced by time off to rest, ride, and explore.

Staff are housed in rustic accommodations, generally in a shared room. Meals are prepared in an outdoor kitchen and shared communally. A laundry machine is available at the volunteer house. There is limited satellite internet available for use.

We expect our staff to contribute with a positive and proactive attitude, to embrace the opportunity to experience life apart from modern conveniences, and to respect every individual in our diverse, multi-cultural community.

    Host (Filled)

The host is the bridge between guests, staff, and the flow of daily life at Ranquilco—welcoming visitors and helping them feel at home in our remote setting. From greeting arrivals with drinks and snacks to lighting daily shower fires, setting beautiful tables, preparing afternoon treats, and sharing meals, the host keeps lodge life running smoothly with warmth and professional attentiveness.

They serve as the main point of contact for guest needs, a liaison with staff, and a steady, friendly presence during meals and evening gatherings. Ideal candidates are outgoing, conversational, and detail-oriented, with a natural gift for hospitality. Prior experience in the hospitality industry is a plus; English fluency is required, and Spanish proficiency is a strong bonus.

    Staff cook (Filled)

The staff cook keeps the Ranquilco community well-fed and happy, working from a covered outdoor kitchen equipped with a large wood-fired oven, open fire pit, stainless steel sinks, and ample counter space. Applicants must be comfortable cooking with fire and confident preparing simple, hearty meals for a hardworking crew. Meals need not be fancy, but they should be delicious, nourishing, and satisfying.

The cook receives fresh produce from the garden and an unlimited supply of ranch-raised meat (primarily goat), with additional staples brought from town. The role calls for creativity and adaptability—making the most of what’s on hand without a grocery store nearby.

In addition to preparing lunches six days a week, the cook oversees the outdoor kitchen and coordinates with community members to share daily tasks—washing dishes, emptying the trash and compost, and generally maintaining the space for the enjoyment of all.
