The latest chapter got underway this week with one episode on the streaming platform, which sees plucky Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) journey to the iconic post-apocalyptic locale of New Vegas.

There has been much speculation about how exactly the series will address the multiple endings of the original game, with showrunner Jonathan Nolan promising a "delicious" solution that respects the choices made in the source material.

Fans will have to wait almost two months for the full picture to emerge, as Prime Video plans to savour this latest chapter by eking out episodes until well into next year.

Patrick Cremona <![CDATA[Steven Spielberg's epic new sci-fi film with Knives Out 3 hero confirms title as it releases tense first look trailer]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/scifi/steven-spielbergs-epic-new-sci-fi-film-trailer/ 2025-12-16T17:38:05.000Z 2025-12-16T17:38:05.000Z The thought of Steven Spielberg directing a new movie about UFOs will be enough to get just about any film fan excited – and a new teaser for the legendary director's upcoming movie has just arrived to further whet appetites.

The trailer – which has also revealed for the first time that the film's title will be Disclosure Day – introduces fans to the film's star-studded cast, which includes Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Eve Hewson, Colin Firth and Colman Domingo.

It opens with O'Connors' character nervously walking into a room before we hear a voice asking, "If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?"

We then see Blunt as a troubled weather reporter who seems to be having great difficulty presenting her slot on a TV news programme, before some pretty unsettling – and unexplained – noises are heard.

O'Connor then explains that "people have the right to know the truth" and that it "belongs to 7 billion people", before he announces plans to provide "full disclosure, to the whole world, all at once."

Some pretty dramatic and intriguing images follow – including the sight of a small girl and some woodland creatures approaching a lit-up house – before we hear the final line, uttered by a nun: "Why would he make such a vast universe, and yet save it only for us?".

Intrigued? You can watch the trailer below:

View oEmbed on the source website

Beyond what is seen in the teaser, not much has been given away about the plot at this stage – with a brief logline just repeating some of the utterances we hear in the clip.

But we do know that the film reunites Spielberg with prolific screenwriter David Koepp – with whom he previously worked with on Jurassic Park – and his long-time collaborator John Williams, who will pen an original score.

Of course, Spielberg is responsible for creating two of the most iconic films ever to deal with the subject matter of extra-terrestrial life – 1977's Close Encounters of the Third and 1982's ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, so we're in pretty decent hands when it comes to the new film.

It's currently scheduled to be released on Friday 12th June and we'll be keeping an eye out for all sorts of updates between now and then.

City have ripped through their opponents in recent weeks, scoring at least three goals in four of their last five matches.

Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and the eye-catching Rayan Cherki have made light work of teams in recent weeks and will have their sights fixed on silverware when the Bees descend on Manchester.

Brentford started the campaign in encouraging style but have struggled for form in December so far.

They put up a fight against City at the Gtech Community Stadium in October but still succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat courtesy of a ninth-minute strike from Haaland.

As well as dumping a shedload of snow all over Battle Royale Island, we've got rumours spanning everything from Harry Potter to Hatsune Miku.

Winterfest 2025 is set to be the latest update to Chapter 7 Season 1 which has already brought us some Hollywood magic, including a brand-new Kill Bill chapter.

But if you're curious when the confirmed Fortnite Winterfest 2025 start date is, you can read on to find out!

When is Fortnite Winterfest 2025? Confirmed start date

Fortnite Winter Fest 2025 is scheduled to start on Thursday, 18th December 2025.

This was confirmed by Epic Games via the company's official social media channels.

What to expect from Fortnite Winterfest 2025

According to Fortnite leaker HYPEX (who is rarely wrong), there will be a Harry Potter collaboration in Fortnite, which will include skins and a Broom Mythic at least.

View oEmbed on the source website

The skin has already leaked, which you can see below:

View oEmbed on the source website

A broom would let players fly around the map, and we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a Golden Snitch to catch during rounds, either.

We already had the Witch’s Broom way back in Chapter 2, so we’ve already got an idea of how a Nimbus 2000 might function in Fortnite.

View Green Video on the source website

The aforementioned Blortzen also points to a Winterfest Hatsune Miku, based on Snow Miku, going by a leaked Fortnite LEGO hairpiece model that closely resembles Snow Miku’s hair.

And HYPEX also shared news that, judging from footage from the Naruto collaboration trailer, more of the map will be covered in snow, based on analysis from SpushFNBR, who spotted the change in the video, and KPMisParrot, who geolocated where in the map it was.

So all in all, we’ve got Harry Potter, Snow Miku and snow. What a time to be alive.

Ned Holmes <![CDATA["I thought it was spam" - Ellie Kildunne on BBC SPOTY nomination as she aims to become second ever rugby union player to win award]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sport/rugby-union/bbc-spoty-2025-ellie-kildunne-interview/ 2025-12-16T17:01:03.000Z 2025-12-16T17:00:27.000Z England star Ellie Kildunne is aiming to become the first female rugby union player to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year at Thursday's awards, and just her sport's second winner ever after Jonny Wilkinson in 2003.

For her, the nomination alone is enough. She believes it serves as more proof that the critics of women's rugby are wrong, and it offers another platform to grow the game.

Kildunne was the Red Roses' talisman as they won the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup on home soil and has been nominated as part of SPOTY's six-strong shortlist, which also includes golfer Rory McIlroy, Lionesses duo Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly, darts prodigy Luke Littler, and F1 world champion Lando Norris.

The Red Roses lift the trophy as they celebrate winning the Women's Rugby World Cup 2025.

The summer tournament was a landmark moment for women's rugby in this country. England delivered on their favourites tag to banish the demons of their 2022 final defeat and win on home soil, while the record-breaking attendance and viewership figures showed.

Kildunne believes that her SPOTY nomination goes further to hammer that final point home.

Quizzed on the potential impact of winning on Thursday evening, she said: "It's huge, but you know, the opportunity for me is the fact that I'm nominated in the first place, the first female rugby player ever.

"Jonny winning it back in 2003 was huge but you don't know if you're going to win it or not. It's big enough anyway, being nominated and to be in a space where, for years, we've been told that no one's going to watch it and no one's bothered about women playing rugby, to now standing up and saying, well, actually, I've got a nomination for something as big as SPOTY.

"It's something that I'm hugely proud of and it puts women's rugby on a platform. You talk about the World Cup, and that's a platform, but this creates another platform for people to watch it on the night and see that we are serious about what we do, that we are great athletes, and we succeed."

Ellie Kildunne, in white and red England women's rugby kit, runs with the ball on the pitch at Twickenham in the Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 final with England and Canada players in the background.

The Red Roses have been shortlisted alongside the Lionesses and Ryder Cup Team Europe for the Team of the Year Award, and Kildunne is clear that the whole England team deserve the credit for her SPOTY nomination as well.

She said: "We don't know who's won but being nominated is such a huge moment for me, personally, for my family, but also for women's rugby, and that is all I can ask for.

"It would be pretty cool to obviously say that I won, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what medals or trophies you get; it's about the people and the journey that you've all been on.

"I wouldn't be able to score the tries that I score if it wasn't for my teammates doing the hard graft in the middle, taking the tackles and turning defences inside out and releasing those perfect passes to me.

"I'm fully aware that it is a team sport, and I wouldn't be in the position that I'm in with the nomination if it wasn't for the girls around me."

It is perhaps no surprise then that it has been the reaction of her Red Roses teammates that have meant the most. Kildunne originally thought her agent was having her on when she received a text from him on the train back from London.

"I didn't believe it," she said. "I thought it was spam. I thought it was pulling my leg, if I'm honest, because that's not something you can imagine. It's something that you can dream."

She kept tight-lipped, other than telling her parents, and it was the England media team that informed the rest of the squad.

"The thing for me that I found so special is the messages that I did get from my teammates," Kildunne explained.

"They see me all the time so it's not that they don't have to say anything, it's more that they know that I know that I'll appreciate that they think it's cool. But some of the messages that I've got. I actually said to Hannah Botterman, who sent me a voice note, I think that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."

She added: "It was really heartwarming to feel the love from my teammates, and the fact that they'd all drop me a little message or put it on their Instagram made me feel really supported and it made it very special."

Sports Personality of the Year 2025 is on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7pm on Thursday 18th December.

Patrick Cremona <![CDATA[The surprising stars who were almost cast in Christmas classic Home Alone]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/surprising-stars-almost-cast-home-alone/ 2025-12-16T16:55:15.000Z 2025-12-16T16:55:15.000Z With the festive season well and truly upon us, it's likely you'll currently be working your way through some of the best classic Christmas movies – and they don't get much more classic than Home Alone.

The film became an instant festive favourite on its original release back in 1990 and has continued to be a fixture on TV channels every December, in addition to spawning a number of sequels.

While it's undoubtedly Macauley Culkin's role as 8-year-old Kevin McAllister which remains by some distance the most iconic performance in the film, he was joined by a number of notable supporting stars – including Catherine O'Hara and Joe Pesci – whose turns are also a key part of the movie's continued appeal.

But it turns out, things could have been very different. A new TikTok released by The Academy Museum in LA has detailed some of the initial casting plans, and there were some very big names who were once also in consideration for the film.

Read on to find out the surprising stars who almost played a part in Home Alone...

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon

Catherine O'Hara's role as Kate McAllister is pretty much a perfect piece of casting – and it's hard to imagine just about anyone else screaming, "Kevin!" in quite so iconic a manner. But according to the clip, one of the stars who was very much in the running for the role was Susan Sarandon – the brilliant star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Thelma and Louise, and Dead Man Walking, among many others.

And she was far from the only alternative on the shortlist for Kate, with other options who were considered including the late Kirstie Alley (Cheers), Blythe Danner (Meet the Parents), Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner), and Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown). All would have made interesting options – but given how great O'Hara is in the role, it's fair to say they made a good choice.

Tim Curry

Tim Curry

Sarandon isn't the only iconic star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show who might have ended up in Home Alone in an alternate timeline. According to the clip, Tim Curry was being considered for the role of Harry, the hapless thief who – along with Daniel Stern's Marv – attempted to sneak into the McAllister home only to be undone by Kevin's numerous ingenious booby traps.

Of course the part was eventually played by Joe Pesci, but it seems there were initially concerns that the Goodfellas star wouldn't take on the role, with a note even going so far as to say, "We don’t think he’ll do it." While Curry seemed to be the alternative that most excited the producers, other names in the running included Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos) and the late Zack Norman (Romancing the Stone).

Jimmy Stewart

Vertigo

Hollywood stars don't get much more legendary than Jimmy Stewart, and the Golden Age icon starred in not one but two of the best Christmas films ever made – It's A Wonderful Life and The Shop Around the Corner. Well, it turns out he could have added a third film to that list, with the clip revealing that he was under consideration for the role of Marley, the older neighbour who was eventually played by Roberts Blossom.

Stewart was in his early 80s at the time and had very much wound down his acting career – his final live action film credit was in 1980 – but apparently he was interested and available in the role before they eventually went with Blossom. Another actor who was considered was Vincent Gardenia, who was known for films including Moonstruck and Little Shop of Horrors.

Danny Aiello

Danny Aiello

Finally, a number of actors were considered for the role of Kevin's father Peter, the role that was eventually played by John Heard. It appears that the late Danny Aiello (The Godfather Part II, Moonstruck, Do the Right Thing) was one of those sounded out – although he reportedly passed – while others in the running included Law and Order star Sam Waterston and David Dukes (Dawson's Creek).

Newcastle's towering German talisman was left red-faced as he steered home a match-winning header during a ferocious Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday... for Sunderland.

Defeating Fulham to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the third consecutive season won't atone for a derby defeat, but it will go a long way towards soothing mounting trepidation across Tyneside.

Eddie Howe is facing increasing pressure to not let this season slide away following a patchy first half of the campaign. The prospect of repeating last season's Carabao Cup triumph would be the perfect tonic for aching Geordies this week.

They head into the game boosted by their opponents losing a trio of key stars, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey, to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Earlier this year, ITV confirmed that a third instalment of All Stars would air in 2026, with an extended version to come.

Welcoming previous Islanders back to the villa for six weeks, instead of the usual five weeks for the All Stars spin-off, it has not yet been confirmed who will take part in the forthcoming series.

But when exactly can we expect to see the new series of Love Island: All Stars hit our screens and what other details of the series have been confirmed? Read on to find out more.

Is there a potential release date for Love Island: All Stars 2026?

A release date for Love Island All Stars 2026 has not yet been confirmed but, based on its previous release pattern, we could expect it to be released in the new year. Both of the previous two seasons of Love Island All Stars aired in the second week of January, so we can hope to see it on our screens then.

Who could be in Love Island: All Stars 2026?

Curtis Pritchard wearing a white shirt and blue shorts, looking ahead.

Akin to the release date, the cast has also not been confirmed but there have been a lot of rumours of which familiar faces might be returning to our screens.

Both Millie Court and Liam Reardon have been rumoured to be heading to the South African villa, which would be very awkward to say the least seeing as they only recently split.

Despite appearing in All Stars last season and coming third, Curtis Richard is yet again rumoured to be joining the cast because honestly what is a series of Love Island without him at this point?

Read here to see who else is rumoured to be joining the cast.

Is there a trailer for Love Island: All Stars 2026?

No, a trailer for the upcoming season of Love Island: All Stars hasn't dropped yet but keep an eye on on ITV2 and ITVX's official Love Island channels and Maya Jama's socials as this is where the trailer is usually released.

Enzo Maresca is aiming to achieve his third semi-final appearance in all competitions since joining the club despite facing intense scrutiny of comments he made after the Blues' last match.

Speaking following a 2-0 win over Everton, the Italian coach said: "Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn't support us" before clarifying that his issues are not with the fans, but refused to comment further.

Maresca's pre-Cardiff press conference was dominated by questions to unearth the full story, but he would not elaborate.

Cardiff will hope the confusion destabilises the Blues as they seek to become the first third-tier team to reach the final four of the Carabao Cup since Burton Albion in 2018/19.

There are still no codes available for Steal a Brainrot, unlike in Fortnite Steal the Brainrot, so Taco Tuesday is still your one-stop shop for getting plenty of cash and Brainrots.

So, when is Taco Tuesday in Steal a Brainrot this week? Read on for everything you need to know.

What time is Taco Tuesday in Steal a Brainrot?

The Taco Tuesday Admin Abuse takes place every week on Tuesday afternoon or evening, or Wednesday morning, depending on your time zone.

For reference, here's what time Steal a Brainrot Taco Tuesday begins in various time zones around the world:

 • US West Coast (PST) – 3pm
 • US Mountain (MST) – 4pm
 • US Central (CST) – 5pm
 • US East Coast (EST) – 6pm
 • Brazil (BRT) – 8pm
 • UK (GMT) – 11pm
 • Central Europe (CET) – 12am
 • South Africa (SAST) – 1am
 • Singapore (SGT) – 7am, Wednesday
 • Australia East Coast (AEST) – 10am
 • New Zealand (NZDT) – 12pm

The Steal a Brainrot developer hasn't confirmed this week's Taco Tuesday time in the official Discord, but we don't expect it to change.

Taco Tuesday's time did flip repeatedly when it first began, taking place at either 5pm EST (10pm GMT) or 6pm (11pm GMT).

But if the developer announces any last-minute changes to the schedule, we'll update this page accordingly.

Taco Tuesday only lasts 30 minutes, so if you want to make the most of it, we'd recommend logging in at least 30 minutes early so that you're ready to play when it begins and have a better chance of avoiding any server issues when everyone tries to join.

Outside of Taco Tuesday, there are other Admin Abuse events and updates that take place on Saturdays. These usually begin at 7pm GMT, which is 3pm EST or 12pm PST.

How to play Taco Tuesday in Steal a Brainrot

During Taco Tuesday, Brainrots can have the chance to be worth a huge amount more than usual.

When the Admin Abuse begins, tacos start being launched towards the Brainrots, giving any Brainrots they hit the Taco trait – this trait makes them generate three times the cash!

Very rarely, a Corrupted Taco Brainrot can spawn. You'll know which ones these are as they glow, and will net you five times the earnings! Everyone will be after these Brainrots, so you'll have to make sure you're fast!

During the event, you also have the chance to get two Brainrot Gods and one Secret Brainrot which are only available during Taco Tuesday. Here's what they are and how much they cost:

 • Tipi Topi Taco – Costs $20m, generates $75k/s
 • Bombardini Tortini – Costs $50m, generates $225k/s
 • Nooo My Hotspot – Costs $500m, generates $1.5m/s

There's always plenty of other surprises that take place during Taco Tuesday, from Taco Lucky Blocks spawning, to completely new events being revealed.

It can be tough to get these with so many players on a public server, so it's worth getting some friends together on a private server to give yourself a better chance!

Joshua Lamb <![CDATA[Minecraft wolves and dogs: Full list and where to find them]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/technology/gaming/minecraft-new-wolves-dogs/ 2025-12-16T16:00:53.000Z 2025-12-16T15:52:11.000Z For the longest time, Minecraft only played host to one type of wolf (or dog, if you prefer), but with a 2024 update, that all changed!

There are now a whopping nine different wolf types you can collect, each of which is found in a different biome.

You can check out the video above for a look at all nine Minecraft wolves and where to find them, or simply read on for the full list!

New Minecraft wolves and dog variants explained

Eight new wolf variants are now available in Minecraft, as promised on the game’s official website.

Add those eight to the original one, and you now have a total of nine dogs/wolves to collect in Minecraft!

If you haven't already watched the video atop this page, you can look at them all in the handy little gallery below.

View Gallery on the source website

Going forward, the game’s original wolf will be classified as the Pale Wolf.

The complete list of Minecraft wolves/dogs is as follows:

 • The Pale Wolf
 • The Rusty Wolf
 • The Spotted Wolf
 • The Black Wolf
 • The Striped Wolf
 • The Snowy Wolf
 • The Ashen Wolf
 • The Woods Wolf
 • The Chestnut Wolf

Adding to that news, the post stated that wolf armour will also be introduced. This customisable feature will absorb all enemy damage before breaking, which will be handy in a scrape.

The creatures are also set to have 40 hearts of health, instead of 20, when fully grown.

Where can I find the new wolf variants in Minecraft? Locations explained

Now that they have been unleashed into the block-laden wilds of Minecraft, you are probably going to want to track them down, aren’t you?

Well, read on to find out where each one can be found.

 • The Pale Wolf can be found in the taiga biome.
 • The Rusty Wolf can be found in the jungle vines.
 • The Spotted Wolf can be found in the savanna plateau.
 • The Black Wolf can be found in the old growth pine taiga.
 • The Striped Wolf can be found in the woodland badlands.
 • The Snowy Wolf can be found, surprisingly, in the snowy groves.
 • The Ashen Wolf can be found in the snowy taiga.
 • The Woods Wolf can be found in the forest biome.
 • The Chestnut Wolf can be found in the old growth spruce taiga.

That is everything wolf-related for Minecraft, but check out some of our other writing on the game below.

Molly Moss <![CDATA[Madame Blanc Mysteries 2025 Christmas special first look teases "most perilous challenge yet"]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/madame-blanc-mysteries-2025-christmas-special-trailer-newsupdate/ 2025-12-16T15:41:05.000Z 2025-12-16T15:40:16.000Z Fans of the Madame Blanc Mysteries have been given a first look at the 2025 Christmas special in the form of an explosive new trailer.

The feature length festive special, which has a 120 minute runtime, follows the cast as they find themselves in quite the pickle at a Christmas Event at the Musée de Sainte Victoire, and promises to be "Jean’s most perilous challenge yet".

The trailer begins with Jean (Sally Lindsay) opening a rare Ormolu box once owned by Marie Antoinette that she’s been invited to authenticate - only to discover a ticking bomb hidden inside.

Chaos ensues as Jean and the gang realise they have just 90 minutes until detonation, and John Thomson’s guest character George Alfonse says: "There’s enough in there to blow this whole museum sky high!"

Alongside a gun being fired and a casualty bleeding on the floor, we then hear Jean saying: "We have to stick together. There’s a murderer amongst us."

Alongside Lindsay, other returning characters for the cosy crime series' festive special include Steve Edge as Dom Hayes, Sue Holderness and Robin Askwith as Judith and Jeremy Lloyd-James, Alex Gaumond as Chief of Police André Caron, Sue Vincent as Gloria Beaushaw, and Tony Robinson as Uncle Patrick.

Meanwhile, newcomers to the cast, alongside Thomson (Coronation Street), include Kacey Ainsworth (Grantchester), Raji James (Hollyoaks) and Manjinder Virk (Trigger Point).

A smiling man wearing a light grey suit and patterned tie sits indoors, engaged in conversation with another person whose back is to the camera. The background is softly blurred, suggesting a warmly lit and elegant setting.

We might have all the details about the 2025 Christmas special, but there’s currently no word on whether the series is returning for a fifth season

However, Lindsay previously gave a positive update on the future of the show, saying: "I'm not under any, 'Yes, I'll quit when I'm on a high.' No, I won’t. I love it so much. I will do it until they want me to not do it, to be honest, because it's such a special thing in my life."

She continued: "It's such a part of our lives now. And it's great for us because Steve [White, Lindsay's husband] does the music as well, so it's something we share. And the boys [they share two sons, Victor and Louie] come out on our holidays there, and it's just brilliant.

"It's just really special, so I'll drag it out as long as they want me to."

David Craig <![CDATA[Boots's cancellation makes perfect sense – it's not just 'a win for Trump']]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/boots-season-2-cancelled-trump-netflix-comment/ 2025-12-16T16:49:56.000Z 2025-12-16T15:38:31.000Z Weeks before Heated Rivalry sent the internet into a frenzy, Netflix's Boots had offered a similar mix of compelling LGBTQ+ drama and tongue-in-cheek thirst content. So, surely we should be outraged by news of its cancellation, right?

Well, not necessarily. It would be easy to jump to the conclusion that this decision is simply bowing to the Trump administration, after the Pentagon branded Boots "woke garbage" shortly after its release.

But first, let's take a second to meaningfully reflect on how Boots ended – and acknowledge that the show would have to change beyond all recognition in order to craft an authentic continuation.

The series wraps up with still-closeted Marine Corps recruit Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) graduating from basic training in the early 1990s; a time when homosexuals were banned from serving in the US military.

As he raucously celebrates with his fellow 'brothers' in a local bar, he catches a television news report in the corner of his eye, discussing Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and the deployment of US troops in the Middle East.

One interpretation of this inclusion is that it's a tease for a second season, but I see it quite differently.

To me, this moment plays more like the powerful conclusion of Blackadder Goes Forth, where the characters in the sitcom are tragically killed after finally going 'over the top' to fight on World War I's horrific battlefields.

In a similar moment of dawning realisation, the boys of Boots have spent months pushing through their training regimen and settling petty rivalries between each other – but now the prospect of a deadly war is staring them in the face.

As viewers, this isn't a cue to start avidly theorising about season 2. Instead, we should reflect on how the characters we've come to know and love could lose their lives, or suffer life-changing injuries, as they're expelled from the relative safety of boot camp.

Viewed through this lens, the first (and now, only) season of Boots doesn't require elaboration. It's a fitting and genuinely moving note to end the story, completing a satisfying adaptation of Greg Cope White's memoir The Pink Marine.

A hypothetical second season would apparently move onto the events of the controversial Gulf War, inevitably requiring a major tonal shift that could strip away what made the show popular in the first place.

Boots didn't shy away from hard-hitting topics, but always had the frat-like atmosphere of its military training barracks to return to as a way of breaking the tension, allowing time for immature misbehaviour and comically macho peacocking.

(L-R) Angus O’Brien as Hicks, Kieron Moore as Slovacek, Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope, Brandon Tyler Moore as Cody Bowman and Dominic Goodman as Nash in Boots; they are stood in a circle in a dormitory looking at a bottle with neon green liquid inside

This youthful sense of fun couldn't really be carried over to the context of a real-life war zone, and especially not one so closely associated with both military and civilian casualties as well as catastrophic environmental destruction.

Considering the implications of where this story goes next, and that there are so few unresolved plot threads (sorry, Sullivan fans), ending Boots with season 1 is arguably the right choice from a creative standpoint.

But, of course, there's also the broader context in which this announcement comes: chiefly, that "woke garbage" accusation, a frustrating and overly simplistic judgement of a show that actually presents a remarkably balanced depiction of military life.

Yes, it explores the dangers posed by toxic individuals and institutionalised discrimination, weighty questions about the ethics of war, and the anguish of parting with your loved ones for periods of great uncertainty.

Logan Gould as Mo Mason, Max Parker as Sgt Sullivan, Rico Paris as Santos and Miles Heizer as Cameron Cope, wearing military uniform, stood in a liner, outside

But it also speaks to the strong sense of camaraderie formed amid such adversity, the sense of direction and purpose that the military can instil in some people, and the bravery of putting one's life on the line for what you believe in.

In short, while there are comedic moments throughout, anyone who has actually watched Boots will know that there's no sugar-coating of the military experience or disrespect towards those who enlist.

Regardless, its artistic merits were lost on the Trump administration, and the timing of the show's cancellation is sure to be noted as Netflix bids to acquire Warner Bros; a colossal potential deal that will require the President's approval.

To be clear, there's no way of knowing if this had any bearing at all on the decision to cancel Boots, but the fact that it can't be entirely ruled out as a contributing factor is demoralising for anyone who cares about mainstream portrayals of LGBTQ+ life.

For the reasons outlined, I won't be signing my name to any petition that simply calls for Boots season 2, but we must rally to ensure that this isn't the start of any wider curtailing of LGBTQ+ stories from Netflix. Or in other words, let's make sure plenty more quality dramas are coming to fill Boots' boots.

Boots is available to stream on Netflix. Sign up for Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.

Patrick Cremona <![CDATA[Goodbye June review: Kate Winslet's directorial debut is a schmaltzy but affecting family drama]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/app/goodbye-june-review-kate-winslets-directorial-debut-is-a-schmaltzy-but-affecting-family-drama/ 2025-12-16T15:24:17.000Z ★★★☆☆

Goodbye June is in select cinemas from 12 December and on Netflix from Christmas Eve. Add it to your watchlist

It's been a big year for famous movie stars making their first forays into feature directing. Throughout 2025, Harris Dickinson (Urchin), Kristen Stewart (The Chronology of Water) and Scarlett Johansson (Eleanor the Great) have all stepped behind the camera for the first time, and now it's the turn of Kate Winslet to prove her directing chops.

The Oscar-winner's debut film is Goodbye June, a tearjerking Yuletide-set drama which is getting a brief theatrical release this week ahead of arriving on Netflix on Christmas Eve. Unsurprisingly given her standing in the industry, Winslet has assembled a stellar cast of talented actors to bring the film to life, with key parts for Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough and Johnny Flynn, while she's also saved a meaty role for herself.

Kate Winslet and Toni Colette in Goodbye June.

The drama's script was notably written by Winslet's 21-year-old son Joe Anders, who was just 19 when he penned the first draft on a screenwriting course. Accusations of nepotism are inevitable (and perhaps not unfounded) and there are undoubtedly times where the screenplay does feel somewhat like the work of a novice, with a rather laboured opening act and a tendency to lean too far into schmaltz. However, there are also a number of genuinely moving touches that show an emotional maturity to Anders's work, especially in the film's latter stages.

View Green Video on the source website

It helps that the subject matter is inherently emotional. The film tells the story of four semi-estranged siblings (played by Winslet, Riseborough, Collette and Flynn) who are brought together and forced to work through their differences as they prepare to say goodbye to their terminally ill mother (Mirren) who has taken a turn for the worse and seems unlikely to make it to Christmas.

Johnny Flynn as Connor, Andrea Riseborough as Molly, Timothy Spall as Bernie, Kate Winslet as Julia and Fisayo Akinade as Angel in Goodbye June.

The idea of juggling the impending grief of losing a loved one with the unavoidable jollity of the festive season is something that will no doubt resonate with a lot of viewers, and for the most part this is handled sensitively by both Anders and Winslet. However the film's mournful tone does make it's aforementioned Netflix release date a tad curious; sure, the film is shot through with Christmas spirit and there are plenty of comic moments, but the overall sadness of the material might make it an odd choice for Christmas Eve itself.

Still, as a portrait of a complicated family dynamic, the film mostly works. The complex relationships the siblings share with each other and their emotionally distant father (Spall) are well observed, even if this film doesn't quite have the depth of another recent Netflix-released film about warring siblings thrust together to care for a dieing parent, Azazel Jacobs's His Three Daughters.

Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn, Kate Winslet and Timothy Spall in Goodbye June

There are also some slight missteps, especially when it comes to the film's more overtly comedic beats – with Winslet and Anders not always landing on the right balance between the emotional and humorous tones. This is especially evident when it comes to Collette's character, a broadly-sketched hippie type with a penchant for interpretative dance who feels a little like she's waltzed in from another film entirely, although a small part for Steven Merchant as a hapless but well-meaning husband works better as comic relief.

But for the most part this is an effective weepy, and the A-list cast elevate the material beyond its occasionally formulaic approach. Mirren is unsurprisingly peerless as the title character, imbuing her with both an optimism (at one point we hear her pressing ahead with making plans for after the Christmas period) and acceptance of her fate, but also with a sense of regret and the feeling of unfinished business.

So while perhaps this doesn't quite announce Winslet as a major new directorial voice – her approach is more functional than eye-catching – Goodbye June is still a worthwhile film with some impressive moments, and seems likely to leave many a viewer with a tear in their eye.

James Mottram <![CDATA[Avatar: Fire and Ash review – Yet another marvel of CG craftsmanship from James Cameron]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/app/avatar-fire-and-ash-review-yet-another-marvel-of-cg-craftsmanship-from-james-cameron/ 2025-12-16T15:11:32.000Z ★★★★☆

Avatar: Fire and Ash is in cinemas from Friday 19 December 2025. Add it to your watchlist

It’s time to go back to Pandora. Journeys to director James Cameron’s fictional alien planet have already inspired two of the highest-grossing movies of all time, Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). Only a fool would bet against this third chapter, Avatar: Fire and Ash, doing the same.

With this Cameron’s third Avatar movie in a row, it’s a bold, brash return to this mo-cap created, CG-realised world, where you have little choice but to surrender yourself to the visual onslaught.

If The Way of Water was more of a hang-out movie, where Cameron introduced the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan, Fire and Ash is a full-on all-out conflict. Set a year on from events of the preceding movie, the focus is once again Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), the former Marine who became one of the blue-skinned Na’vi people after transferring his consciousness permanently into his avatar.

He and his family, including wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), now live with the Metkayina – including Kate Winslet’s free-diving, pregnant Ronal – after leaving their own Omatikaya clan.

Week 51 Avatar

With the script again penned by Cameron and husband-and-wife team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, this time the story introduces the Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People, a volcano-dwelling group led by the fearsome tribal leader, Varang (Oona Chaplin). The best antagonist in the Avatar franchise so far, brilliantly brought to life by Chaplin, the red-and-white-coloured Varang is power-hungry creature, at one with the elements.

She forges an uneasy alliance with Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), Jake’s nemesis – the fallen military commander resurrected as an avatar "recombinant". Or as he puts it here, “I guess I don’t die that easy".

He is going gung-ho to take down Sully, as the human-led military group RDA look to colonise Pandora, despite humans still being unable to breathe the air on the surface of the planet. It is Quaritch who introduces Varang to “weapons of metal”, watching her eyes widen as she fires bullets. “Feels good, don’t it?” he purrs.

As the very political and ecological stability of Pandora is threatened, the RDA turns its forces to attacking the Tulkun, those beautiful whale-like creatures that dominate the planet’s oceans. It’s these scenes that hit home, as these peaceful innocents are harpooned in a moment that resonates to anyone who has seen footage of the decimation of the Earth’s whale population. Cameron may lack subtlety, but it can be denied these scenes decrying man’s destruction of Mother Nature feel powerful.

With operations overseen by General Frances Ardmore (Edie Falco), there is also a return for the Ahab-like Captain Mick Scoresby (Brendan Cowell, on fine form), who now has a metal arm after losing his in The Way of Water. Flight of the Conchords’ Jermaine Clement, as Scoresby’s marine biologist, also reappears, although the film’s central figure is Spider (Jack Champion), the dreadlock-wearing son of the late Quaritch who was adopted by Sully’s family. His journey gives Fire and Ash much of its emotional heft, as the Quaritch avatar pursues Spider for his own nefarious ends.

At 3 hours 17 minutes, the film is long, maybe never quite justifying its length, with a story that is – to borrow a recent title – one battle after another. The message is hardly sophisticated (“killing will only bring more killing”) but its hard to deny the immersive quality of the 3D visuals, with every frame plunging you into Pandora.

If spending time in the bio-luminescent forests and turquoise oceans of an alien planet is your thing, then Fire and Ash does everything you’d hope. It’s a marvel of CG craftsmanship and of Cameron’s pursuit of perfection.

David Craig <![CDATA[Will there be an It: Welcome to Derry season 2?]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/it-welcome-to-derry-season-2-release-date/ 2025-12-16T15:25:37.000Z 2025-12-16T14:50:50.000Z Horror fans have been gripped by HBO's nightmarish It: Welcome to Derry, which saw the return of the terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown (as portrayed by Bill Skarsgård) - and now, fans are patiently waiting for news on a potential season 2.

In season 1, the chilling prequel took us back in time to 27 years before the early events of the Stephen King novel (and film adaptation), where the so-called Losers Club had their first run-in with the terrifying entity.

If the creative team behind the spin-off has their way, we'll be going back even further in a potential second season, to learn more about what exactly It wants, and how the creature came to be marooned on this planet.

If you're eager to see an It: Welcome to Derry season 2, read on for everything we know so far about the future of the series, now the dramatic season 1 finale has dropped!

Will there be an It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

Chris Chalk stars in It: Welcome to Derry; in this scene, his character is wearing American military uniform and standing in front of a sign depicting Pennywise the Clown on a dark night

HBO is yet to confirm whether It: Welcome to Derry has been renewed for a second season or will be cancelled.

Things looked promising for the series in its opening week, when the network announced Welcome to Derry was their third most-watched launch on HBO Max, behind only past phenomenons House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

Nielsen later reported that 620 million minutes of the series were streamed across North America in the seven days after its premiere, placing it in the top ten most-watched streaming shows of that week.

However, it hasn't quite been able to sustain that level of interest across the whole season, as shown by it quietly dropping off the Nielsen top ten in subsequent reports.

For that reason, in addition to recent uncertainty regarding the future of HBO and parent company Warner Bros., it's difficult to predict with confidence what the future holds for It: Welcome to Derry.

We'll update this page when more information on the show's status comes to light.

When could a potential It: Welcome to Derry season 2 be released?

Clara Stack as Lilly Bainbridge & Matilda Lawler as Marge Truman in It: Welcome to Derry episode 5

If It: Welcome to Derry does get renewed for a second season, it would likely be with us in 18-24 months' time, which has become a normal production cycle for many large-scale genre shows.

That would point to a potential premiere window between summer and winter 2027. However, producer Barbara Muchietti recently said on Reddit that it's "not the intention" to make fans wait "years" for another instalment.

Who could star in a potential It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

Pennywise the Clown holds a red balloon inside a sewer drain, with a dark rainy night sky behind him

If It: Welcome to Derry does return for a second season, it seems likely that the show could have an entirely different cast – with a notable exception being Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.

It would be difficult to imagine Welcome to Derry continuing without the Swedish star, who has made the role of Stephen King's iconic villain entirely his own across two feature films and the first season of this spin-off.

However, as a potential next season is set to go further back in time than ever before, it seems likely that we'd be introduced to a new cast of children for the Dancing Clown to terrorise.

When would It: Welcome to Derry season 2 be set?

Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise in It: Welcome to Derry, wearing a bright red frilly costume with bright red make-up around his mouth and white face paint.

Welcome to Derry co-creator Andy Muschietti has suggested that a potential second season of the horror series would go back further in time to the previous occurrence of Pennywise's 27-year awakening – that means shifting the story to 1935.

"Everything that we are setting up in season 1, that will really manifest in [seasons] 2 and 3, is a look into all the bigger questions about It. 'What does It want? Why is It here?' All the cryptic elements of It that we're going to ruin and explain," he told SFX.

Is there a trailer for It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

Alas, there's no new footage to share just yet – we'll update this page if that changes.

It: Welcome to Derry is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

Molly Moss <![CDATA[Long Lost Family confirms return date with emotional new episodes with Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/documentaries/long-lost-family-season-15-return-newsupdate/ 2025-12-16T14:34:00.000Z 2025-12-16T14:34:00.000Z ITV has revealed when we can expect Long Last Family to land back on our screens after the show went on a hiatus earlier this year.

The beloved British series, which is hosted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell and aids individuals in reuniting with their long-lost relatives, returned for its 15th season in September 2025, with the first half of the series being released.

The second half of season 15 will be released on ITV1 on Thursday 15th January at 9pm, with episodes airing at the same time for three consecutive weeks.

The first instalment in season 15 left viewers emotional earlier this year after introducing 56-year-old Lee Sharp – a man who had been abandoned on the steps of a block of flats as an infant.

Lee had initially thought he was a foundling, only to discover this wasn’t the case.

The Long Lost Family team were unable to trace Lee’s mother, but discovered he had a brother, with Davina arriving at his home to deliver the unexpected news.

Stephen and Lee Sharp.

Davina said: “Your story, to me, felt so unique and different because you may have had these feelings of a foundling when you weren’t one.”

Reacting to the news, Lee said: "I thought I was dropped from space. I just thought there was no one like me in the world, but there is.”

He continued: “To get good news today, and not bad news… I deserve that."

Long Lost Family first aired in 2011, becoming a huge hit with viewers.

The show has since spawned multiple spin-off series, including Born Without a Trace, which follows individuals who were abandoned as babies as they track down their birth parents, and Long Lost Family: What Happened Next, which revisits past reunions from the original show and gives viewers an insight into their lives after the first meeting.

UK time and date latest]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sport/boxing/anthony-joshua-jake-paul-date-time/ 2025-12-16T15:14:01.000Z 2025-12-16T14:20:59.000Z Former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul take to the ring for their controversial bout this weekend.

The contest has a David v Goliath feel to it. Joshua's experience and physical attributes dwarf his American opponent, who has never boxed at elite level.

The eight-round fight in Miami marks the Brit's return to the ring for the first time since his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September last year.

Paul, meanwhile, followed up his win over 59-year-old Mike Tyson last year with a victory in June against 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who looked a shadow of his former self.

The American is hoping to prove himself at the top level of the sport, while anything less than an early-round stoppage would be a major dent to Joshua's reputation.

RadioTimes.com rounds up everything you need to know about the timings for the Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua fight.

Fans around the world and in the UK are expected to be able to tune in via Netflix.

What time is Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua?

The start time for Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua has been confirmed as 1am on Saturday 20th December UK time.

That will likely be the start of the undercard, with the ring walk and main fight expected to start a few hours later.

Where is Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua?

Jake Paul v Anthony Joshua will take place at the Kayesa Centre, in Miami, Florida.

James Mottram <![CDATA[Avatar: Fire and Ash review – Another marvel of CG craftsmanship from James Cameron]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/scifi/avatar-fire-and-ash-review/ 2025-12-16T14:01:04.000Z 2025-12-16T14:00:31.000Z It’s time to go back to Pandora.

Avatar: Fire and Ash will debut in cinemas on Friday 19th December 2025 in the UK.

Rob Leane <![CDATA[Fallout season 2 review: A meandering return to the wasteland]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/fallout-season-2-review/ 2025-12-16T10:09:53.000Z 2025-12-16T14:00:04.000Z Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout TV show is returning to our screens this week, and we’ve seen three episodes early to bring you this review. The season’s eight episodes will drop weekly, so we’ll keep this write-up as spoiler-free as we can.

First things first, one thing in particular strikes me as odd. The first season of Fallout ended with an overt tease that Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul and Ella Purnell’s Lucy are heading to New Vegas — indeed, you could see the Vegas sign in the distance — but we’re three episodes into the new season and feeling very underwhelmed about the lack of New Vegas.

Instead of rushing straight to a confrontation with Lucy’s father (Kyle MacLachlan), Lucy and The Ghoul are meandering across the wasteland being pulled into all sorts of scrapes.

You could argue this is pretty faithful to the experience of playing a Fallout game (and getting distracted on the way to your main objective), but still, it feels like a bit of a rug-pull that’s been designed to elongate the season and stretch out the overarching story.

Another qualm is the flashbacks. If you thought the olden times adventures of Walton Goggins’ Cooper Howard had reached a natural conclusion, the writers clearly disagree with you.

In a fashion that reminded me of the long-dead Arrow series from The CW, Cooper’s flashbacks return with a new focus. They will now relate directly to the events of season 2. Isn't it funny how his past comes back to haunt him in perfect chronological order?

View Green Video on the source website

To be honest, though, all of those issues are structure-based. I wasn’t expecting to see another full suite of flashbacks, and I wasn’t expecting to wait so long for a proper visit to New Vegas. Once I adjusted my expectations to account for these distractions from the A-plot, I actually had a very fun time with the three episodes I’ve seen thus far.

The first episode reintroduces Lucy and The Ghoul with a really fun, and quite funny, set-piece involving a sniper rifle and a hangman’s noose. We’re thrown straight back into the chaos of the wasteland, with all of its weirdos and random violence.

The frenemy chemistry between Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins is still absolutely off the charts, and it doesn’t take long for their reluctant partnership to go well and truly off the rails. Even though the characters are well established at this point, season 2 still finds ways to plumb a little deeper into what makes them tick, and they can definitely still surprise you.

Episode 2 and 3 widen the net, allowing us to see what Aaron Moten’s Maximus has been up to, and I’m pleased to report that it’s shaping up to be a really interesting season for him. The Brotherhood of Steel arc wasn’t always the strongest side of season 1, but the ante is being upped this year and Moten is doing fine work delivering his meaty new material.

Meanwhile, back at Lucy’s vault, things are hotting up for the characters left behind. There’s some good fun to be had there and yet another subplot, involving MacLachlan’s Hank, is also showing a lot of potential.

With all of these subplots warring for screen-time, plus the fact that our main characters are waylaid multiple times on the way to New Vegas, one word is cemented in my mind that defines Fallout season 2’s first three episodes: meandering.

That’s not to say that there isn’t some entertaining stuff along the way. Kumail Nanjiani makes a particularly memorable impact when he arrives in the show, and Macaulay Culkin also has a fun little guest spot.

There are also some very impressive visuals, thrilling action scenes, tough choices, and great music to enjoy across this journey, as well as some fun Easter eggs for game fans. But make no mistake — this is a long and winding road that will take a while to reach its destination.

When the world of Fallout has already been ruined for centuries, perhaps there’s no great rush to push the overarching story forward. But as a viewer watching at home, you do want a little bit more momentum and a lot less dilly-dallying.

That being said, with all of the pieces that we’ve seen on the board, we can sense that Fallout season 2 is building to some big confrontations and epic moments. But as for what we’ve seen so far, it doesn’t exactly start with a bang.

Endnote: Since writing this review, I have been sent three more episodes (meaning, as I write this last paragraph, I've now seen six of the eight in the season). I stand by my assessment above, but I can now reassure you that all of the meandering does lead to some interesting places... eventually. Without having seen the final two, though, I can't speak to how well all of the spinning plates will satisfy you at the end of the season.

Fallout season 2 will arrive on 17th December on Prime Video. Sign up for a 30-day free trial of Prime Video and pay £8.99 a month after that.

Molly Moss <![CDATA[Beloved pop icon on track for Christmas 2025 Number 1 with new single - ahead of Wham!'s Last Christmas]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/audio/kylie-minogue-christmas-2025-number-1-newsupdate/ 2025-12-16T12:10:58.000Z 2025-12-16T12:10:58.000Z Kylie Minogue is leading the race for this year’s Christmas number one, according to the Official Charts Company.

The Australian pop star’s festive single XMAS is currently 7,000 units ahead of Wham’s Last Christmas.

Last Christmas never topped the charts when it was first released in 1984, but finally hit Number 1 in 2023, before retaining the title last year as well.

In third place, and just 231 chart units behind Wham, is Together for Palestine’s charity single, Lullaby, which features Brian Eno, Celeste, Bastille‘s Dan Smith and many more.

All proceeds from the single will go towards three Palestinian-led charities – Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Taawon and Palestine Medical Relief Service – amid the war in Gaza.

XMAS’ success is down to fans buying physical copies, as well as it being one of Amazon’s now yearly exclusive Christmas songs, meaning it features prominently in Amazon’s recommendations whenever fans ask Alexa for Christmas music.

Kylie also performed the song on Sunday night's Strictly Come Dancing, treating fans to the single's YMCA-inspired choreography that sees her spell out XMAS.

Although her album, Kylie Christmas, topped the charts last week, XMAS would be Kylie’s first Number 1 single since Slow in 2003.

Olivia Garrett <![CDATA[Wicked's Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey tipped to reunite on the London stage for beloved musical in 2027]]> https://www.radiotimes.com/going-out/tickets/ariana-grande-jonathan-bailey-west-end-newsupdate/ 2025-12-16T11:30:55.000Z 2025-12-16T11:20:15.000Z A Wicked reunion is in the works, as Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are rumoured to be heading for the London stage in 2027.

The pair are said to be appearing in a West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George, although no official announcement has been made.

According to Deadline, the show is planning a summer 2027 run at The Barbican Theatre, which is also set to host Call the Midwife's Helen George in High Society, next May.

Sunday in the Park With George is a Tony-Award winning musical that has been dubbed by some as the world’s most acclaimed musical. Written by Sondheim and James Lapine, the show is based around George Seurat's famous painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.

The adaptation follows Seurat as he struggles to complete what would become his masterpiece, becoming overwhelmed by his need to finish the hat. As a result, he isolates himself from everyone important to him, including long-time lover Dot.

Ariana Grande has recently confirmed she'll be taking a break from popstardom after finishing up her 2026 Eternal Sunshine tour.

Speaking on Good Hang with Amy Poehler she said: “I'm very excited to do this small tour. But I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time.

"I’m going to give it my all, and it’s going to be beautiful, and I’m so grateful. I think that’s why I’m doing it. Because I’m like, one last hurrah. For now.”

Jonathan Bailey has likewise shared that he'll be pausing acting work to focus on his charity, The Shameless Fund. Which means a 2027 musical run would line up for both.

Bailey recently starred in Bridge Theatre's Richard II while Grande has never appeared on the West End stage. Let's hope, for the sake of Glinda and Fiyero fans, an announcement comes soon.

They have previous, having roared back from 2-0 down against the Aussies two years ago when only the Manchester rain denied them a famous series victory.
