Musi (Basé Musi)

Musi is a part of the Upper Musi group of Malayic languages. It is spoken mainly in the north of South Sumatra province in Indonesia by about 600,000 people. In particular, it is spoken along upper parts of the Musi river in the Musi Banyuasin and Musi Rawas regencies.

Musi is also known as Musi Malay, Upper Musi or Musi Proper. Dialects include Sekayu, Kelingi and Penukal. It is closely related to Palembang, which is spoken nearby. Varieities of Upper Musi and Palembang are collectively known as Musi languages. Musi is written with the Latin alphabet.
