WHAM!’s Last Christmas returns to the top of the Official Singles Chart
As Kelly Clarkson secures a brand-new peak with Underneath The Tree
As the race for 2025’s Official Christmas Number 1 kicks off today, to be revealed Friday December 19, WHAM! displace Taylor Swift atop the Official Singles Chart with Last Christmas.
With Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael’s timeless hit finishing less than 5,000 units ahead this week however, and several strong Christmas Number 1 contenders known to be dropping new physical releases today, the field looks to be wide open going into the biggest chart race of the year. Get ready to choose your fighter as we delve into Last Christmas’s biggest contenders.

RAYE’s WHERE IS MY HUSBAND! lands just behind WHAM! this week at Number 2, a third week in the runner-up spot, can Christmas party season push her all the way next week?
Kelly Clarkson’s euphoric Underneath The Tree celebrates a brand-new peak this week, breaking the Top 5 for the first time (5). The track was originally released back in 2013 and entered the UK Top 10 for the first time last year, its rise again this week arguably securing its status as a modern-day Christmas classic.
Everybody’s goin’ X-M-A-S as Kylie Minogue’s Amazon Music UK exclusive XMAS asserts its Christmas Number 1 capabilities. The track lifts eight to a new Number 16 peak this week with its vinyl and CD versions arriving today and counting in the Christmas Number 1 race. It comes as Kylie banks her 11th Official Number 1 album with Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped).

So RAYE would be #1 without the Christmas songs. Definitely a promising sign for her come January.
I just know that Wham! will be Christmas Number One for the third year in a row. They're an iconic duo but it's time for a change.

I agree .Love Wham but this is getting a joke .They are going to be Christmas number one every year Already I can see next year 4th year running and so on.Needs to be pur on ACR otherwise the Christmas number one tradition is ruined 😭

Should’ve been #1 already but some suss numbers going on. Interesting it wasn’t able to top Taylor yet this week Taylor had a massive unexpected drop. How did her “sales” decrease so much this week? Did the streaming farms close up or the payola run out?
Piran
I believe it is on ACR, as are all the Christmas songs that are more than three years old. At this point, we need recurrent rules similar to what the US have. It would also prevent older hits spending literally years on the chart.

It's because it went on ACR. When a song declines in streams for three consecutive weeks, it's streaming units that count towards the chart are halved. Combine that with the Christmas songs gaining and it's hardly surprising that 'The Fate Of Ophelia' fell as much as it did. It would be #7 this week without them. It's definitely not payola since the UK charts don't count radio.
