Val’s story
Val is 86 years old and living with vascular dementia - a diagnosis that brought uncertainty and change for her and her family. However, music therapy has become a source of hope and happiness.
Luke’s story
Luke is autistic, and he sometimes finds it hard to maintain focus and to remember things. Music therapy helps him express himself creatively, experience a sense of flow and familiarity, and where his music-making is always affirmed and celebrated.

Poppy’s story
Poppy is three years old and lives with Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 girls worldwide. Music therapy has given Poppy a space where she can express herself freely, and brought moments of joy and hope to her and her family.
Arness’ story
Arness is a seventeen-year-old asylum seeker who arrived in the UK entirely on his own. This Refugee Week, we're sharing how music and songwriting are helping him to build confidence and process difficult emotions.
Ava’s story
Ava is a year 9 student, and she struggles with anxiety and low self-esteem. But she loves to sing, and music therapy is helping her to work through her anxiety and self-image, and help build up her confidence.
Marie’s story
Marie lives with dementia in a care home in the North of England. Music therapy helps to bring her joy and unlock precious memories.
James’ story
James is 14 years old and has cerebral palsy, visual impairment and learning difficulties. For two and a half years, James has been making music at his school in London, with Nordoff and Robbins music therapist Sam.
Samir’s story
After fleeing his home country, Samir was completely alone when he arrived in the UK. Music therapy improved his mental health, and helped him to be part of the local music community. Read his story today.
Niam’s story
Niam is 10 years old and has Down syndrome which affects his coordination and ability to communicate. But in music therapy, he can express himself freely.
Fernando’s story
Fernando moved from Portugal to the UK, where he began attending a local Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. Music became his creative outlet, supporting him through this time of lots of change.

During a 9-month hospital stay following a brain tumour, music therapy helped Heba regain confidence through singing and songwriting.
Rosa’s story
Rosa is autistic and can suffer from severe anxiety, which makes it difficult to participate at school. Music therapy helped her to flourish, and unlocked a passion for performing.
