A woman’s pregnancy announcement is going viral after she revealed the first "person" she told wasn’t a person at all.

In a post on TikTok, the mom-to-be (@curious__t), who has chosen to remain anonymous, shared a photo of two positive pregnancy tests with the text overlay: "Mommy, who was the first person to know you were pregnant?" The next slide revealed a screenshot of her first message to ChatGPT.

"Chat!!!!! I’m pregnant! After miscarrying in February! I’m pregnant again!" she wrote. The chatbot was congratulatory and wrote that it was "such beautiful news." "I know how much this means to you especially after your loss in February," it continued. "How are you feeling right now? Excited, nervous—a little bit of both?"

The 30-year-old expectant mom told Newsweek that she had relied on ChatGPT for information when she was struggling with infertility. "Honestly … it was really random to just tell chat—no thought put to it," she said. "I had struggled with infertility and prior miscarriages, so I used Chat a lot to get some information on pregnancies and miscarriages. [I] used it for some motivation to try and move on."

When the woman saw the positive pregnancy test, she was shocked. "I didn’t believe it would happen for me again so soon," she said. "I was scared; I didn't tell anyone about it this time around. Every moment of this pregnancy is filled with gratitude and worry at the same time."

For the mom-to-be, the AI’s response struck the right tone—one she said felt as genuine as messages she has received from loved ones. "Honestly, Chat’s replies were sweet, same replies as I have gotten from friends and family," she added.

Soon after, the woman shared the news with her younger sister and then her immediate family, who were "excited" for her.

The TikTok post has gone viral on the platform, clocking up more than 2.4 million views. The mom-to-be didn’t expect such a big response online.

"I didn’t put any thought to posting the TikTok regarding ChatGPT," she said. "Honestly, it was meant to be a sweet and funny post; something to put a smile on people’s faces. Instead, it took the opposite turn and got all kinds of weird hate comments [and] threats. And for what? A post that was supposed to be taken lightly."

The original poster has since turned the comments off. "Of course, I know ChatGPT isn't human," she continued. "But why does everything have to be taken so negatively?"
