A bride-to-be received an unusual question from her mother before her wedding.
In a TikTok video, she revealed the surprising idea her mother had before her big day: could she wear a tuxedo instead of a gown? The bride, Samantha Marks Tasman, immediately said yes—but the real surprise came on the wedding day when the mom revealed the tuxedo's incredibly personal lining. Tasman, 31, told Newsweek about the experience and what her mother's choice says about her personality.
"My mom asked me if she could wear a custom tux for my wedding, I said sure, why not?" Tasman captioned the video. "Best decision ever."
The Fashion-Forward Mother
Tasman told Newsweek that her mother is a "fashion-forward icon" who loves to stand out. Her mom had already worn pantsuits to the engagement party and bridal shower, and she was always a fan of the look.
"She is tall and has long legs, so I have always thought that pantsuits look great on her," Tasman said. When her mother formally asked if she could wear a suit to the wedding, her answer was an immediate yes.
The bride was excited by the idea, knowing her mom would "rock a tuxedo so hard," Tasman said. The decision created a memorable moment when both her mother and father walked her down the aisle in matching tuxes.
The Surprise Lining
The most tear-jerking moment, however, was kept secret until the very last minute. While zipping Tasman into her dress, her mother revealed that she had gotten the inner lining of her tuxedo jacket specially customized.
"I had no idea she had the lining customized with photos of me and us," Tasman said. "When she zipped me into my dress, she surprised me with that aspect of her tux, and it was amazing. I cried. It was so beautiful seeing how much she cared for me and my biggest day."
The thoughtful detail didn't stop there; her mother also had a matching accessory made for her husband: "She had a pocket square of the same fabric made for my dad to have in his tux pocket," Tasman added.
The bespoke tuxedo was just another example of her mother's unique and thoughtful style.
"My mom always stands out in the best way, and this was another example of that," Tasman said. "She is an inspiration to me in so many ways—fashion included."
Tasman said she decided to post the moment because she had never seen anyone else's mom wear a tuxedo before. She didn't expect the post to become so popular, but was delighted by the reaction.
"People loved it," she said, adding that the TikTok moment became a lasting memory of the love and self-expression on her big day.
