Switchfoot keeps roots, shows crossover appeal By PHIL ANDERSON Morris News Service Switchfoot is that rare group whose music and videos are apt to pop up on mainstream and Christian outlets. Fans of the San Diego-based alternative rock band no doubt have grown in number through the years and will be delighted to get their hands on the group's first collection of its greatest hits. On "The Best Yet" (Columbia, 18 songs), Switchfoot's history comes to life. Included are several tunes from the 2003 album "The Beautiful Letdown," which sold 2.6 million copies, including "Dare You to Move," "Meant to Live," "This is Your Life" and "Twenty-Four." Also featured are earlier songs, when the band had just been signed to Charlie Peacock's new indie label re: Think Records in 1997. The group's most recent radio hit, "This is Home," from "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" soundtrack, also is included. That song also was featured on ESPN's show on America's best sports town. Through all the years and all the songs, the unmistakable voice and guitar work of Jon Foreman is the bread and band together and gives butter that holds this man identity all its own. Leighton Ford, the righthand man of the Rev. Billy Graham from 1955 to 1985, has penned a new book titled "The Attentive Life: Discerning God's Presence in All Things" (Inter Varsity Press, hardcover, 225 pages). In the book, Ford states he is looking inward in his relationship with God. "Now is the time to pay more attention to my own heart, " he writes, "to deepen my own friendship with God and to walk with others who want to do the same."
