Contracts have been let for the new buildIng to be erected by the Western Bank Note company upon a site recently purchased at the northeast corner of Indiana avenue and Twentleth street. The building will be six storles high, 112x160 feet in ground dimensions, and will- be entirely used by the company. It will be of steel construction, with pressed brick and stone fronts, and will cost about $300,000. The contract for the big new malthouse to be built for the American Malting company in connection with its plant at One Hundred and Twenty- Third street and the Western Indiana tracks has been let to W. M. Crilly. The new bullding will be five stories high, 58x88 feet, and will cost $100,000. Other business and factory buildings for which contracts have been let Include: Two story and office bullding. 80x131 feet, at Forty-Third street and Prairie avenue, for W. R. Linn, $50,000; reconstruction of the seven story mercantile building, 80x100 feet, 129-135 Clinton street. for James A. Miller & Bro., $50,000; three story storage and warehouse, 76x119 feet, at Curtis and Kinzie streets, for John Eisner, $40,000; three story building, 81x125 feet, at 288-292 West Adams street, for the Consolidated Portrait company, $30,000; five story factory at Carroll avenue and Morgan street, for A. Cowles, $25.000. The city council has made appropriations for the following school buildings: Irving Park, combined elementary and high school, $250,000; Moore school, twenty-six rooms and assembly ball, $175,000; Perry and Granville avenues, twelve rooms and assembly hall, $125,000; Dickens avenue, twelve rooms and assembly hall. $125,000; on, Avers avenue and Sixteenth street, twenty-six rooms and assembly hall, $175.000; additions to the Audubon, Hedges, and Cornell schools, $90,- 000 each. Henry A. Taylor, J. H. Hearl, Dr. R. F. Johannot, and C. E. Robert are the members of a committee for the rebullding of the Unity church in Oak Park, which recently was destroyed by fire. It 'Is the intention to secure, if possible, a new site and to expend about $50,000 in the undertaking. Worthman & Steinbach are the architects of a church which is to be built at Humboldt boulevard and Maplewood avenue for the St. John's Berchman Belgian congregation. It will be two stories high, 50x116 feet in ground dimensions, and will cost $30.000. Henry L. Newhouse is preparing plans for a three story apartment building which Norman P. Cummings, the builder, will erect at Lake avenue and Forty-Seventh street, at a cost of $200,000. The structure will have 200 feet street front and will be one of the largest in the Hyde Park district. The exterior material will be stone for the first story and pressed brick above. It will contain -two sultes of five to seven rooms. George O. Garnsey has let the contracts for a five story apartment building, which 1s to be built for Lesley P. Mick at 1742-44 Grace street. It will be a building of 54x100 feet ground dimensions, contain ten apartments of seven and eight and will cost $75,000. Henry J. Peet and J. B. Waller will build a three story apartment of 62x100 feet ground dimensions at 4143 Alexander place after plans by Turnock & Ohrenstein. It will cost $46.000. BUILDING NOTES OF THE WEEK. New Tall Structure for State and Monroe Streets Planned. Eugene S. Pike, owner of the property, 46½×83½ feet, at the northeast corner of State and Monroe streets, has in contemplation the construction of a store and office bullding on that corner. It will be sixteen storles and will cover the entire site, be of fireproof steel construction, with fronts of granite for the first two stories, pressed brick and terra cotta above, have hardwood finish, steam heat, electric light, and is estimated to cost about $300,000. The Arst story is to contain a fine store and the upper stories will be for offices, stores, and shops. The Farmers' Packing company is a new organization, Incorporated with a capital stock of $1,500,000, the promoters of which will erect a big plant, independent of the meat trust.
