Shorthanded Nicholls State still routs EWU THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Despite the absence of 15 players who were declared ineligbible because of an ongoing academic fraud investigation by the NCAA, Nicholls State jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead on the e way to a 37-14 win over Eastern 250 totals yards and constantly flustered Eastern Washington quarterback Erik Meyer. Meyer was 16 of- 7 for 122 yards with two interceptions. Eastern Washington's first score of the game came with 27 seconds left in the third Washington on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams. The Colonels rushed for 246 yards, with Colt Colletti leading the way with 91 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Colonels' defense limited the Eagles to quarter on a 7-yard run by Darius Washington, making the score 37-7. Except for a dropped punt, it marked the first time the Colonels allowed the Eagles to cross midfield in the entire game. Eastern travels to Air Force on Sept. 11.
