So Michigan State, in its first year of Big Ten football competition, came a cropper in its fourth conference outing. BIT OF HISTORY Spoiler Purdue? Ah, there's line or two of history to be recited. In 1950 it was Purdue, in game at South Bend, that snapped Notre Dame's winning streak, 39 games, in a 28-14 victory. There were two ties in Notre Dame's chain. And, Purdue won this game. Michigan State did not lose The Boilermakers earned the touchdown on solid grounds. Michigan State never really came close to scoring, although it must be noted that a Spartan touchdown that might have yielded a victory, was nullified because of a clipping penalty. In the fatal fourth quarter, after Purdue had scored, Leroy Bolden gathered in the kickoff and ran swiftly through and beyond the Boilermakers for 95 yards. But, Wes Farrell, the back judge, called a clipping penalty 10 yards from where Bolden started his run. It was State's only reals chance, and the burst of light dimmed by the gloom. THIS WAS THE DAY Dark and ominous clouds lowered over the scene. It was the day for the Spartan to lose. Michigan State only twice was able to sustain an offensive. Western sources said the statement fore-shadowed great difficulties and probable failure for the Korean political conference. Arthur H. Dean, special U. S. ambassador, meets tomorrow with the Communists to set a time and place for the peace conference. He warned in advance he would not sit "indefinitely and listen to propaganda" and expected a decision in 10 days or two weeks. Ada Communist Chinese assertion that "we have not yet completed our task" in North Korea came only a few hours after Dean told a press conference the United Nations will insist that all Chinese forces leave Korea to pave the way for unification. Peiping, in a broadcast hailing the anniversary of China's entry into the Korean war, praised the /"militant friendship" binding the people of North Korea and Red China. It spoke of the two coun• tries almost as one and said: "All the Chinese people arc resolved further to promote the movement to resist American aggression and aid Korea to support the Korean people's army and the Korean people and to struggle for complete implementation of the Korean armistice agreement." HEAVY SHADOW The broadcast cast a heavy shadow on the political conference even before the two sides meet to name the place and time. The meeting begins m. Monday (9 p. m. EST Sunday) in a straw hut on the line south of Panmunjom. Dean won a victory over site of the meeting when he rejected Communist demands it be held in the "Peace Pagoda" in the Communist half of Panmunjom. Dean will represent the 16 United Nations which fought in Korea, and South Korea which is not a member of the UN.
