A new monster is on the loose in Norway, and they call him — drum roll, please — Megatroll. In the Troll 2 trailer, Professor Nora Tidemann (Ine Marie Wilmann) is recruited once again to help address a new threat, and this one is even bigger than the last.
Following Troll’s success as the most popular non-English language film on Netflix, director Roar Uthaug set out to surprise audiences with a supersized sequel. “It’s very exciting and very inspirational to know that we have such a huge fan base out there,” he tells Tudum. “That also makes me very excited to share this sequel with them because I’m really proud of it. I think if you love the first movie, you’re really going to love this one.”
Those fans can get a peek at the mayhem in store for Troll 2 in the newly released trailer above. It all starts with a frightening sequence in which a gigantic troll disrupts — and decimates — a crowd partying inside a ski lodge. Then Andreas Isaksen (Kim Falck) returns, visiting Nora, who he previously worked with to stop another massive mayhem-causing creature in the original 2021 film, and introduces her to a stories-tall specimen he’s dubbed “Megatroll.” With great regard for trolls, the professor is in awe, but when the vengeful behemoth escapes, she and Andreas must team up again with army major Kristoffer Holm (Mads Pettersen) to take him down.
This time around, the original members of the ragtag Troll team are joined by new faces in their mission. The sequel’s trailer introduces government official Marion Auryn Rhadani (Sara Khorami) and historian Esther Johanne Tiller (Anne Krigsvoll). “They brought new, fresh life to our group,” Uthaug says. “It’s interesting to see the dynamics when you bring new characters in, so I thought that was an important part of the movie.” And Esther, Marion, and Megatroll aren’t the only additions in the sequel.
Troll 2 ups the monster movie ante by bringing in another giant to combat Megatroll’s destruction. “We were able to make it bigger this time around, so it was a no-brainer that we needed two trolls,” Uthaug explains. In the trailer, the creatures face off among snow-covered mountains and again in a city center, as an astounded Andreas utters the fitting phrase, “Monster Mash.”
But will this fight finally put an end to the trolls’ terror? Find out when the next chapter of the legend unfolds in Troll 2, streaming Dec. 1, only on Netflix.
