Atypical

Atypical is the kind of show that’ll make you want to hug your people a little tighter. The four-season series follows Sam (Keir Gilchrist), a teen on the autism spectrum, as he faces relatable growing pains with family, friends, and young romance. Blending humor with warmth, it’s a heartfelt reminder that coming into your own is anything but typical — and that’s exactly what makes it such a comforting watch.

Derry Girls

Set in Derry, Northern Ireland, during the final years of the Troubles, Derry Girls follows five friends as they navigate growing up in a time of political conflict. In the series, Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), and pals Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and James (Dylan Llewellyn) are just trying to get through Catholic school under Headmistress Sister Michael’s (Siobhán McSweeney) watchful eye. Together, the girls (and James) navigate crushes, family, and hilarious teen chaos against the backdrop of their changing country. Derry Girls is a lighthearted series about the love and joy of community and friendship. (Plus, it’s a great way to get The Cranberries stuck in your head.)

A Different World

Originally a spin-off of The Cosby Show, A Different World starts off following eldest daughter Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) as she heads to the fictional historically Black Hillman College. Though Bonet departed after the first season, the series continues, primarily focusing on Southern belle Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and a group of friends as they take on academia, college activities, and the world. While A Different World never shies away from timely, real-world issues, the groundbreaking sitcom, with its majority Black cast, is firmly a feel-good show thanks to its focus on friendship and community.

Gilmore Girls

There’s no place quite as cozy as Stars Hollow, where mother-daughter duo Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) Gilmore drink far too much coffee. Their profound bond and snappy one-liners, along with an ensemble cast of lovable, high-maintenance, and sometimes eccentric characters, has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years. This show is all about complex family dynamics, the importance of friendship, and falling in love — and there are plenty of love triangles to go around. Once you finish all seven seasons of the original series, you’ll want to cue up A Year in the Life and catch up with the Gilmores nearly a decade later. Just make sure you have an assortment of snacks on hand for this one. Along with Graham and Bledel, Gilmore Girls also stars Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Edward Hermann, Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki, Matt Czuchry, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil, and Melissa McCarthy.

Grace and Frankie

Sometimes you might find you have more in common with a lifelong enemy than you originally thought. Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) have been rivals for as long as they can remember, but when they learn that their husbands have fallen in love — with each other — the women form an unlikely bond through their shared pain. Grace and Frankie is a show about opening your heart to all kinds of love, growing older, and how there’s always something new to learn about yourself as life goes on. Fonda and Tomlin are also longtime friends and professional collaborators whose connection will have you laughing and crying through the series’ seven seasons

The Great British Baking Show

There’s nothing quite as sweet as The Great British Baking Show, and not just because of all the delicious pastries. This wholesome baking competition brings a group of amateur bakers together to complete three different challenges each episode as they compete for the ultimate prize: a cake stand. But what makes this feel-good baking show extra special is that, despite its competitive nature, the contestants are always ready to help each other out when they need it most. And that’s what makes this show as sweet as a Victorian sponge.

Heartstopper

Hi.” That’s the word that started it all. Heartstopper is a British coming-of-age series that centers on the introspective Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and rugby star Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), whose meet cute begins when their teacher assigns them to sit next to each other. From there, a sweet romance develops between the two boys. It’s the type of show that will take your breath away over and over again with the nostalgia of falling in love for the first time, and the struggles that come with growing up. While the boys face different challenges as the series goes on — for instance, an important mental health journey Heartstopper is full of love that will stay with you long after you press pause.

Love on the Spectrum

If there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s the desire for meaningful connections. For three seasons, Love on the Spectrum has chronicled the experiences of young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigate the changing world of dating in the hopes of finding a special someone. When the US spin-off of the popular Australian series premiered in 2022, it followed a group of neurodivergent singles navigating the ups and downs of dating and relationships — from first-date jitters to the joys of hitting it off with someone new, and even moments of heartbreak. Whether you’re watching for the first time, or have been rooting for your favorite couple over multiple seasons, this refreshingly sweet dating show will capture your heart again and again.

A Man on the Inside

Unlike his character in A Man on the Inside, you won’t have to go undercover to find more Ted Danson. The series follows Charles (Danson), a retired San Francisco professor who responds to a classified ad placed by a private detective, and infiltrates a retirement residence in search of a jewel thief. Through his investigation, Charles uncovers more than he expected, as he develops touching friendships with the facility’s residents and a stronger bond with his daughter (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). The series tackles themes of grief, complex family relationships, and aging, which creator Mike Schur (The Good Place) describes as “a subject we are uniquely terrible in this country at confronting, dealing with, or discussing.” Schur based the series on the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent. Once you make it to the end of Season 1, you’ll be thrilled to know a second season is coming later this year.

My Life With the Walter Boys

My Life with the Walter Boys is a wholesome coming-of-age story about grief, resilience, and self-discovery. After losing her family in an accident, 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) moves across the country, leaving behind her busy Manhattan life for rural Colorado, to live with her mother’s college best friend Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty), her husband George (Marc Blucas), and their 10 kids. While Jackie processes her loss, she finds comfort and some hope in the relationships she builds with two very different Walter brothers: the reliable and bookish Alex (Ashby Gentry) and the mysterious and troubled Cole (Noah Lalonde). The show’s emphasis on friendship, love, and community makes it a feel-good watch for anyone looking for some small-town charm.

North of North

In North of North, Siaja (Anna Lambe) is a young Inuk mother rebuilding her life after a very public breakup in Ice Cove, Nunavut — a tight-knit Arctic town where nothing stays secret for long. As she experiences the highs and lows of rediscovering herself, Siaja learns what’s possible when you move beyond who you thought you were and embrace who you’re truly meant to be. Funny and full of charm, the series celebrates resilience, fresh starts, and the beauty of community.

Sweet Magnolias

Set in the fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina, Sweet Magnolias is a heartening show about the friendships that get us through life’s biggest challenges. The series centers on childhood friends Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) who come together to lift one another up — often over margaritas — through all of life’s transitions. The theme of women supporting women is at the heart of Sweet Magnolias — you’ll want to grab your besties for this one.

Queer Eye

This show is as feel-good as it gets. Through Queer Eye’s nine seasons — and two spin-offs — the starring cast of lifestyle experts has changed many lives. The first eight seasons follow the Fab Five (Jonathan Van Ness, Bobby Berk, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, and Tan France), who each play a unique role in a complete lifestyle makeover. After Berk’s departure in 2023, interior designer Jeremiah Brent joined the cast starting with Season 9, but the assignment remained the same. The crew continues to build meaningful relationships with people as they help spruce up their lives from the inside out, including in body, mind, spirit, and, of course, living space. It’s a heartwarming series about meeting people where they’re at, and connecting with one another based on the humanity we all share.

Survival of the Thickest

Mavis (Michelle Buteau) is a 38-year-old assistant fashion stylist who dreams of becoming a lead stylist, and her longtime fashion photographer boyfriend and business partner Jacque (Taylor Selé) supports her at every step. But her life is turned upside down when she finds Jacque in bed with another woman. It may not be the shakeup she hoped for, but with some help and encouragement from good friends, Mavis is committed to making her big break on her own terms, no matter what the universe throws her way. The series was created by Buteau and writer-producer Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (New Girl), and was adapted from Buteau’s book of essays of the same name

Virgin River

Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) has been through many ups and downs over Virgin River’s six seasons. The series follows the nurse practitioner as she relocates to the titular small town to rebuild her life after a tragic, life-altering event. In Virgin River, Mel finds love with the charming local bar owner, Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a former US marine facing some hardships of his own. The scenery alone — with its lush forests, mountain views, and waterfalls — will sooth you as you watch Mel and Jack’s love story unfold. Plus, Virgin River was renewed for a seventh season, so there will be even more coziness to go around.

XO, Kitty

This spin-off of the beloved To All the Boys movies follows Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) — the youngest of the Covey sisters — as she leaves Portland, Oregon, to follow in her late mother’s footsteps and attend the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS). The story begins with Kitty eager to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi), who she met during a family trip to Korea in Always and Forever. But the series’ first two seasons are full of twists, turns, and plenty of drama for the 16-year-old. While the movie series centered on Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) romances, XO, Kitty is all about Kitty and her journey of self-discovery with the same dose of feel-good and comfort you get from the movies — and even better, the show was renewed for a third season

Younger

Liza Miller (Sutton Foster) is a recently divorced woman in her 40s who is looking for a fresh start. She wants to re-enter the publishing world in New York, but finds that starting a new career at her age is harder than she expected. When her BFF Maggie (Debi Mazar) takes her out to lift her spirits, Liza hits it off with 26-year-old Josh (Nico Tortorella), who mistakes her for someone much younger. But the encounter gives Liza and Maggie an idea. Liza decides to take another shot at her dreams — and she’s going to do it by pretending to be younger. This show is a reminder that it’s never too late to start over, to take chances on yourself, and not settle for anything that doesn’t feel good enough for you.
