Virgin River's 'perfect replacement' from the same author starring Gilmore Girls legend confirms huge update
Another small-town drama starring a Gilmore Girls icon was renewed for a third season earlier this year and fans of the Virgin River author Robyn Carr are eagerly awaiting the next instalment
Fans of Virgin River have another reason to celebrate this week, as they eagerly await the return of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) in just a few days.
In addition to the much-anticipated sixth season of the popular romance series dropping next Thursday (December 19), it has been confirmed that another small-town drama with a growing fan base will continue.
The series, which shares a similar premise, is penned by Robyn Carr, the same author behind Mel and Jack's adventures.
Sullivan's Crossing, starring Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray, follows a neurosurgeon who returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia to reunite with her father but ends up getting more than she bargained for.
The show also features Gilmore Girls star Scott Patterson and Canadian actors and musicians Tom Jackson and Andrea Menard. It was renewed for a third season back in June this year, reports the Daily Record.
Previously, the series was available to watch in Canada on CTV before being aired on The CW slightly later.
However, this could change as The CW has joined the third season, which is set to air on both networks in 2025. This means the next 10-part series could be broadcast simultaneously in the US and Canada.
While Sullivan's Crossing may not have as large a following as Virgin River, this exciting news could see its fan base grow significantly in the coming years. The show has already received high praise from viewers.
One fan took to Reddit to share their thoughts: "Very similar story to VS about a woman who's a neurosurgeon who needs to leave her life in Boston to go stay in her childhood town.
"It's shot in Nova Scotia and has lovely scenic views of nature just like VR. It's set in a small cosy town with a romance and basically feels like a Canadian version of VR. I think it's a better show tbh."
Meanwhile, another fan offered their take: "Same writer but it's a bit slower and more dramatic, like emotionally dramatic."
"It definitely has a similar small town charm but with a bit less cheesiness," chimed in another, providing their perspective on the series. "A doctor in legal trouble goes home to her small town."
One viewer simply summed up Sullivan's Crossing as "basically the same show" as Virgin River.
An avid watcher advised: "It gets some hate on this subreddit but don't let that stop you. Keep expectations low and the tissues at hand. Also, keep an eye out for the VR and GG actors."
With the much-anticipated sixth season of Virgin River on the horizon, fans are being tipped off to keep Sullivan's Crossing on their binge-watch list as a worthy contender to fill the void between seasons.
Virgin River season 6 will be released Thursday, December 19 on Netflix. Sullivan’s Crossing airs on CTV in Canada and The CW in the USA.
