Strictly fans issue complaint about Tess and Claudia's outfits but sad reason revealed

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman dazzled Sttrictly Come Dancing viewers with their outfit choices on on Saturday night and they flooded social media with their responses

Strictly Come Dancing fans wondered why for Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman's didn't dress up for Halloween Saturday night. The hosting duo, who announced just weeks ago that they are to step down from the hit BBC series at the end of this year, arrived for their usual slot on the latest edition of the programme and confused viewers by dressing in black whilst the contestants and judges were all dressed in spooky costumes.

Tess, 56, looked sensational in an off-the-shoulder black number and she let her blonde hair flow free for the evening. Meanwhile, Celebrity Traitors host Claudia, 53, wore a similar black dress completed with sleeves, whilst both wore poppies in honour of Remembrance Day.

The looks instantly prompted a response from viewers of the show, and they flooded social media with their reactions. One said: "I didn’t recognise the judges in their costumes. How comes Tess and Claudia ain’t dressed up?"

Another added of Tess's dress: "That’s a nice dress if she didn’t have an old bit of material swinging off the back off it ffs," but another was full of praise as they said: "tess and claud in matching black velvet im obsessed" Claudia recently spoke of how her daughter Matilda was just eight-years-old when her Halloween outfit went up in flames after it brushed against a candle.

Matilda was wearing a witch costume when they were at a neighbour's house while the family were out trick-or-treating. The child suffered from several severe burns, which Claudia said was a "life changing" moment for the family.

Claudia said that the burns were "life-changing but not life-defining" for her child, but she said the ordeal was also life changing for her as a mum.

The star said she wants parents to be aware of the type of costumes they're dressing their children in. She told the BBC: "I would like parents to, just on Halloween, just to think about what they're going to put their kids in because I didn't, and it cost us."

Matilda had several operations to treat her burns. Explaining what happened Claudia said: "She went up, is the only way I know how to describe it. It was not like fire I had seen before."

Just over a fortnight ago, the pair they unleashed the bombshell news that they would be leaving the programme after 15 years at the end of this series.

In the initial announcement, which consisted of a video of the pair sitting next to one another, Claudia began with: "Hi it's Claud and Tess. There have been some rumblings and we want you to hear this from us..."

Tess added: "Yeah we have news. After 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly we have decided the time is right to step aside and pass on the baton..."

"The very sparkly baton..." Claudia continued before she turned to Tess and said: "You've been here since the beginning..." Tess, who used to host the show with the late Bruce Forsyth, then replied: "2004 with Brucey – lovely Bruce.

"That's over two decades ago and a lot of that time has been with you. It's been a huge part of our lives, hasn't it? Since our children were literally babes in arms and now they're young adults and I think, genuinely we have cherished every second."

Claudia added: "We have, we're so lucky to have been part of this amazing show and we just want to thank the Strictly team because Strictly is the people who make it so thank you..." Tess agreed: "They are the very best team in television we've been so lucky.

"And the audience as well, they've been so wonderful. They've been with us for this entire journey of 21 years and we wouldn't have a show without them and they've been just so loyal and supportive."
