Strictly Come Dancing star apologises on-air as Claudia Winkleman steps in
BBC's Claudia Winkleman was quick to offer Karen Carney comfort after her Rumba routine on Strictly Come Dancing.
On Saturday evening, BBC viewers settled in to witness the remaining celebrities grace the dance floor for Icons Week.
Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts will witness the likes of Lewis Cope, Vicky Pattison and George Clarke deliver performances paying homage to some of the most iconic music legends ever, including Cheryl Cole, Johnny Cash and Harry Styles.
This comes after revelations earlier in the week that hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly have chosen to depart the show following 21 years as part of the programme.
Nevertheless, despite the startling news of their departure, Claudia was swift to provide Karen Carney with reassurance on Saturday evening following her Rumba performance.
The panel delivered varied critiques for the sports personality, with them explaining how intricate the choreography proved to be, reports Wales Online.
Following their dance, Karen and her professional partner Carlos made their way up to chat with Claudia, and it was evident the commentary had left the celebrity disheartened.
As the BBC presenter told her she was 'excellent', explaining how the professionals observing were praising how fantastic her legs looked, Karen found it difficult to stay upbeat.
She responded: "Thank you, as they mentioned down there, there's about eight different walks. Sorry, I'm a bit gutted. It does happen but he saved it so, well done you (Carlos)."
Addressing the Strictly professional, Claudia enquired about his pride in Karen mastering this choreography, given it's vastly different to anything they've tackled previously.
He responded: "Saying proud is an understatement, I mean, how hard she's been working and on her own. I tried to call her a bit independent this week because there is a moment for you to show your slo-mo skills, you are in control of everything-"
However, while he was singing Karen's praises, Claudia spotted that she seemed disheartened, as if she was fighting back tears.
Quickly reaching out to comfort her, Claudia said: "No, I don't want you to be upset!" With a swift smile, Karen reassured her: "Oh no, I'm good, I'm alright."
As they reassured her that she had performed well, the judges awarded the pair a total of 28 for their routine. Despite Karen assuring Claudia and Carlos that she was fine, viewers were quick to comment on her reaction.
One viewer took to social media, saying: "Aww Karen the dance was so pretty don't let that knock your confidence."
Another posted: "I just wanna give Karen a hug bless her." Meanwhile, another viewer commented: "Bless Karen thought she did well to be honest hard dance."
One fan added: "Karen looks a bit disappointed with that but she shouldn't despite the slip up it was really beautiful!!"
