Netflix halts Selling Sunset Season 9 for urgent statement
The real estate show has finally returned for another season of office drama and luxurious sales
Netflix interrupted the latest season of Selling Sunset to issue viewers an important statement.
The real estate show has returned for its ninth series, with stars Chrishell Stause, Chelsea Lazkani, Emma Hernan, Nicole Young, Alanna Gold, Mary Bonnet, Amanza Smith, and Bre Tiesi back at The Oppenheim Group.
Picking up where the eighth season left off, this ten-episode instalment takes viewers to Los Angeles, where the agents' clients include everyone from Jojo Siwa to Tyrese Gibson.
However, before viewers could tune into the first episode, Netflix shared an important statement about the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles earlier this year.
Addressing viewers, the streaming giant wrote: "In light of the devastating wildfires that impacted Los Angeles and the surrounding areas in January 2025, we would like to acknowledge that several episodes of Selling Sunset were filmed prior to this tragedy."
The statement went on to express gratitude for service workers who ran into action.
"Thank you to the first responders, fire fighters and the brave people who worked tirelessly, to protect and restore hope as we rebuild our beautiful city," Netflix continued.
While the series starts before the fires, it dives into how the tragedy impacted members of The O Group from episode five onwards.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Chrishell, 44, said: "In Los Angeles, I feel like every single person knows somebody that lost everything, it is that ever-present."
Marie-Charlotte, Jason Oppenheim's former assistant, later visited the real estate office and shared her heartbreaking experience. She explained that she had been working from home when two fires broke out nearby and she ran to pick up her daughters from school. But the family couldn't return to their home afterwards due to the fires spreading.
"I have nothing," Marie shared, adding: "So, no more home, no more business. The girls' school burnt. My bank burnt, with the safe. Like, literally nothing."
Chrishell herself previously lost a home to a fire at just 12 years old, and became teary eyed as she reflected on her experience.
"...home represents a safe place in the world. And when you don't have that, it's really hard to go through the world and function. So, I just hate that anybody's going through that. It's the worst," the actress explained.
