A Place in the Sun fans admit 'I didn't see that coming' as couple make bold offer
A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton was tasked with finding Gary and Alison a rural holiday home in France.
Viewers were left in shock when a couple made an unexpected offer on a property featured on A Place in the Sun. Gary and Alison, who were on the hunt for a rural retreat in France's Haute-Vienne region, had a budget of £100,000 to find their dream holiday home.
They wanted a two-bedroom house with additional space for Gary's classic car collection and a garden for their dogs, as they were charmed by the relaxed French lifestyle and felt it was time to invest in a place of their own.
Presenter Laura Hamilton showed them a "quaint" first option in a village that immediately caught Gary's eye for its "enough character" and he confessed: "The more we went round the more we loved it."
Keen to keep the momentum going, Laura then took them to a second, larger four-bedroom property. Upon entering the living room, Alison exclaimed: "Yes, yes, yes."
The couple was smitten with the extensive outdoor area, although Gary found it "a bit daunting."
Despite their initial enthusiasm, they expressed concerns about the amount of renovation needed. Laura didn't miss a beat and presented a third option, a stone cottage ready to move into but lacking the "character" Gary and Alison desired.
They decisively rejected this property, with Gary stating: "I don't think I want to see any more." Alison concurred: "It's not what we're looking for."
Alison was absolutely gobsmacked even before setting foot in Laura's fourth property, blurting out: "I can't speak." The Channel 4 presenter gave her a comforting nudge as she was overcome with emotion. A clearly impressed Alison congratulated Laura with a heartfelt: "Well done."
Priced enticingly at just a smidgen above £128,000, the three-bed gem came complete with its own swimming pool and expansive gardens, reports the Liverpool Echo.
"I can't fault it", Alison admitted, as Gary chimed in saying: "It just kept getting better."
The couple echoed praise for Laura's spot-on find, repeating together: "Well done."
Despite swooning over the fourth house, Laura still whisked them away to see another stunner boasting a private cottage alongside the main residence. They were taken by this other home's interior but their hearts were anchored on property number four.
Ready to pounce on the three-bed charmer listed around £130,000, Gary and Alison decided on a bold move, lobbing an offer of £115,000 into the mix. Alison confidently quipped: "If you don't ask you don't get."
Much to their delight, the seller snapped up their "cheeky" bid straight off.
Social media buzzed with excitement, as one user exclaimed: "I actually gasped when the offer was accepted. Good for them. Nice couple."
Others joined the frenzy adding: "Didn't see that coming! ! Best of luck to them"
"Go on please get it or I will" one wrote, as another added: "That was a bargain. Well done to them."
A Place in the Sun is on Channel 4 at 6pm.
