Top-rated murder mystery series fans can’t stop watching returns for its ‘best season yet’

One of the most iconic mystery shows in recent years has finally returned for another outing to ring in the autumn season

A beloved murder mystery series fans are completely addicted to has returned for its fifth season, which just might be its best instalment yet.

The series boasts a stellar cast of A-listers, including plenty of special guest appearances from Hollywood icons, as well as jaw-dropping twists and side-splitting gags at every turn.

Countless fans are expected to tune in this week as the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building has finally arrived.

The first three episodes of the new outing are now streaming on Disney+, or Hulu for fans in the United States, and are a must-watch as we head into autumn.

Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short star in the hit series as a trio of podcasters who solve murders in their New York City apartment building.

This time, they’re desperate to get to the bottom of the tragic slaying of their doorman Lester (played by Teddy Coluca) in a gripping case that’s been described as their most riveting yet and so far has a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

TechRadar has called season five “the best season of the hit Hulu show yet”, adding its return to screens feels like a “warm hug”.

Their four-star review continued: “Only Murders in the Building season 5 raises the bar on what's come before but doesn't lose sight of what makes the show so beloved. Be prepared to suspend your belief to the ceiling, though.”

FandomWire agreed, penning: “Balancing the familiar with the novel quite well, season 5 of Only Murders in the Building sees the show at its best since season 2, offering lots of laughs alongside a genuinely unpredictable mystery.

“Still, the new direction that Only Murders in the Building season 5 takes from a narrative standpoint is enough to prove that the creators aren’t yet running out of ideas for what to do with this series.

“If they can continue to make mysteries that are as funny and twisty as the ones we get this season, we will absolutely continue to tune in.”

And Awards Buzz raved: “Against all odds, this show remains as vibrant and clever as ever five seasons in, carefully and reliably balancing amusing plot points with much more serious criminal arcs.”

Only Murders has also received five-star reviews across the board from fans over the years, all of whom will be thrilled to see the cosy crime-comedy exceeding expectations half a decade into its run.

One Google reviewer admitted: “I was skeptical at first about this show, but I decided to give it a try anyway for Selena Gomez and the next thing I knew, I had finished two whole seasons in a day!

“I couldn’t stop watching. Only Murders in the Building is funny, unique, and surprisingly heartwarming.”

And another raved: “At the beginning when I first saw the first episode when it premiered I said sure let’s give it a shot and the next thing you know I’m hooked I can’t stop watching the series I’ve repeated the series more than once and every time I still laugh at certain parts.”
