Coronation Street's Swarla fans 'heartbroken' as kiss threatens to break-up couple
Coronation Street's Swarla fans were left 'heartbroken' after Becky kissed Lisa during a party on Friday's episode as they wondered what this meant for their favourite soap couple
Coronation Street fans were left 'heartbroken' on Friday night when Becky Swain threatened the future of Carla and Lisa once again. Fans of the world's longest TV soap opera have been caught up in the romance of factory boss Carla and the police officer since they got together in November last year, and they have become a social media sensation known as Swarla.
When Lisa first arrived on the scene, she revealed that her wife Becky, also a police officer, had been killed in the line of duty some years earlier but she got a shock a few months ago when it emerged that was all a cover up, and Becky had been alive and well and living in Spain as part of a corrupt cover up. Since making herself known, Becky has spent the last few months turning up unannounced at number six and bonding with their daughter Betsy once again.
When Carla went away to Ireland for a funeral, Becky wasted no time in getting her feet under the table at number six and whilst nothing happened between herself and Lisa, she was quick to let Carla know she had been staying over as soon as she got back. On Friday's episode, new Rovers Return landlady Eva Price threw a Halloween party, and this is when things really started to kick off. At the pub, Becky decided to play her and Lisa's wedding song on the jukebox and when her estranged wife became emotional she went into the toilets and Becky took the opportunity to pounce.
She promptly planted a kiss on Lisa and even though she pushed away almost immediately, she felt the need to go home to tell Carla the truth about it all. Carla raged: "I flipping knew it, you've been feeding me a pack of lies.
"I've just bought this house with you, I've taken on your daughter. I've put everything, all I've got, into this, and it's not enough because I can't compete with someone who comes back from the grave, can I?" Even though Lisa protested that there is 'nothing' going on before herself and Becky, Carla stormed over to the Rovers to confront her fiancée's wife.
Once there, she marched up to the booth Becky was drinking at, pushed her hard and fumed: "Couldn't wait to get your claws in, could you? You ever kiss her again, and I'll kill you. And this time, you'll stay dead!"
The four of them all headed back to number six, where Carla well and truly gave Becky a piece of her mind before demanding she get out. Things got emotional later on, with both Lisa and Carla in tears over what had happened.
Lisa admitted she would always have some sort of feelings for Becky because they have a child together. When Carla demanded to know if Lisa would still want to be with Becky if she was not on the scene, Lisa said: "I'm not going to answer a hypothetical question," but Carla responded: "You just did."
Carla ran round to the café to see Roy Cropper, who has acted as her confidant for a number of years, and he promptly reminded the no nonsense businesswoman of herself. Roy said: "I can't help but thinking this is a bit defeatist coming from you. I'm surprised you're giving up without a fight."
Carla responded: "Did I say I was giving up? If she wants a fight, she has come to the right place!"
Fans were left divided over the whole dilemma, with one writing: "Am I the only one thinking that (for once) this isn't Carla putting aside how she feels or what she needs? And I don't mean her leaving in the end. I mean the fact that she needed this moment too—to remind herself that beneath the storm, this is it & this will not change"
Another fan admitted they were 'heartbroken', as they said: "Carla opening up to Roy about her insecurities in her relationship with Lisa, heartbreaking!"
Another fan was clearly at emotional loss, and was on the edge of tears as the dramatic scenes unfolded. They said: "Lisa Swain Bolt immediately told her Carla what happened because she literally had TRUST she will understand and trust her and she thought they could get through this together even if the risk of losing her was high. What if I cry?"
Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.
