Coronation Street star reveals favourite's return and teases mystery new character
Coronation Street newcomer Pauline McLynn has seemed to confirm Evelyn Plummer, played by Dame Maureen Lipman, will be heading back to Weatherfield soon after her most recent stint
It seems we could be welcoming back a soap icon to Coronation Street sooner than we thought.
Actress Dame Maureen Lipman is thought to be rejoining the show as Evelyn Plummer, just weeks on from her most recent appearance. Fans know that the Corrie star is no longer in a full-time role, instead appearing part-time.
But newcomer Pauline McLynn appeared to confirm Evelyn will be back on the show soon, and she wants her character Maggie Driscoll to film scenes with her. Speaking to The Mirror amid her dramatic debut on the soap, Pauline suggested Maureen was reprising her role.
She told us on whether we might see Maggie in scenes with Evelyn: "I think that might be on the cards! Dame Maureen’s returning soon. Right now we’re focused on establishing the family, but I’d love to see the two of them together.

It’d be like The Odd Couple! I’d be gutted if I didn’t get a chance to have a go with all the icons before Maggie’s killed by a tram or something!"
Maggie made her big debut as the "mother-in-law from hell" of Eva Price on Monday night, when she dropped one almighty bombshell. Just as Eva celebrated becoming the new landlady of the Rovers Return, she learned husband Ben Driscoll had not been entirely honest with her.
Having funding issues, his claims that he bought the pub were false - and Eva was furious. But after he told her the pub was now their's as he'd managed to find the money, what he failed to mention was where the funds came from.
In comes Maggie who wasted no time in telling Eva that it was her money Ben had used. So, you guessed it, Maggie is the official new owner of the Rovers, not Eva.
But could another mystery family member of the clan be about to arrive to shake things up even more? Pauline said it was a possibility. She shared: "She has two sons – I haven’t met the other one yet, but I know he exists!
"Depending on what story needs to be told, we may meet him, we may not." On what's ahead, she added: "It’s great to be the bearer of such good news – something great coming down the line in a great series. It’s a very happy time."
Pauline also teased fans would see "bad behaviour" from Maggie at Christmas, in scenes that may see the character push things a little too far.
