The Nintendo Switch console is causing a stir online after a livestream presentation of the upcoming console revealed its release date and how much it would cost.

The latest hardware from the video game giant was given an official retail price of £279.99 in a statement from Nintendo UK, with online retailers like Amazon and Tesco immediately taking pre-orders.

However, those who paid a visit to Gameseek.co.uk were able to reserve one of the consoles for £198.50, a whopping £81.49 cheaper than everywhere else.

Posting on their website, the company said that "everybody that ordered a Nintendo Switch at GameSeek will have their pre-order honoured at £198.50". It looks like all of their Switch consoles are now spoken for, as the offer is no longer available.

GameSeek told Mirror Online how the pre-order price came about: "The pre-order pricing was an underestimate.

It wasn't a price error, this sub £200 price was what we were all hoping for at GameSeek, but sadly we were way off.

Confirming again that they are intent on honouring their pre-order price, Stephen Saley, CEO of GameSeek said:

"Honouring the pre-order price is the right thing to do.

Many other retailers would have taken a different route.

It was a relatively easy decision, I will do absolutely everything I can to give our loyal customer base the most competitive price and the best possible shopping experience."

He confirmed that Nintendo have been in touch but "haven't mentioned anything about offering a different price".
