Two former Man Utd managers in running for Wolves job after Vitor Pereira sacking
Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are both in the running to become the next Wolves manager after Vitor Pereira was sacked on Sunday following a 10-match winless run
Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have both been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers following the sacking of Vitor Pereira. Pereira was given his marching orders on Sunday after a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Fulham.
The Black Country outfit have failed to win each of their last 10 games, and they sit at the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points. As Wolves launch their search for a new head coach, two familiar names have cropped up among the early favourites.
Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen in September, had a short-lived and challenging stint in the Bundesliga, managing just three matches – the fewest number of top-flight matches in charge before being sacked in German league history. The Dutchman held the reins at Manchester United for over two years, overseeing 128 matches and leading the Red Devils to FA Cup and Carabao Cup glory during his tenure.
Solskjaer is another name linked with the vacant post. The former United boss also recently lost his job having been sacked by Besiktas earlier this season after failing to qualify for Europe.
Solskjaer was in charge at United for nearly three years, coming closest to lifting a trophy in 2021 when his team were defeated by Villarreal in a thrilling Europa League final penalty shootout. The managers had varying degrees of success at Old Trafford, and despite the Norwegian managing 40 more matches than his counterpart, their win percentages are strikingly similar.

It is 54.69 per cent for Ten Hag and 54.17 per cent for Solskjaer. According to Bet365, Brendan Rodgers, Lee Carsley, and Gary O'Neil are also in the running for the Wolves job, along with a few others. The new manager will have their work cut out for them.
With the three newly promoted teams showing strong performances, Wolves are without their usual safety net in the relegation battle. The club are eight points adrift of safety, with Burnley sitting in 17th place on 10 points, leaving a mountain to climb for the incoming boss.
If Ten Hag or Solskjaer take charge at Wolves, it won't be long before they reunite with their former colleagues at United. The Red Devils are currently set to play the Black Country outfit twice in the Premier League next month; firstly at Molineux on December 8, and secondly at Old Trafford on December 30.
In the meantime, though, James Collins and Richard Walker, the head coaches of Wolves' under-21 and under-18 teams, respectively, will take the reins. They will take training while the club searches for a new boss. An official club statement announced that all eight of Pereira's backroom staff left.
