Phil Foden responds after sick trolls made 'disturbing' claims about his children

Phil Foden was forced to seek legal advice after a sick troll claimed one of his children had died and another has cancer - with his wife Rebecca Foden now forced to address the bogus claims

Phil Foden has been forced to contact his solicitors after a vile internet troll falsely claimed one of his children had passed away and another was battling cancer. The 25-year-old sought legal counsel after the hoax tales began circulating on social media platforms.

The Manchester City star's wife, Rebecca Foden, was compelled to address the fabricated allegations herself. Rebecca, 24, and the England international are parents to three children, and she felt obliged to respond publicly after being swamped with messages regarding the fake stories, reports the Daily Star.

She posted: "We are aware of the pages and accounts spreading these stories. They are completely false and very disturbing. I don't understand how people can makeup these things about anyone, especially children. It's sickening.

"We are all absolutely fine thank god and thank you for all your concerns we are doing everything we can to stop them. Please report any posts or pages you come across sharing these false stories."

The malicious tales had begun spreading on Facebook, where they falsely claimed their son, Ronnie, 6, had passed away. Another fabricated story from a troll using the name Man City Fan Lover created a bogus "confession" from Foden about his daughter True, 4, stating: "My Little Girl has Cancer."

These fictional accounts were accompanied by AI-generated images showing Foden and Rebecca in tears, with the sheer number of posts causing his name to trend online.

Foden came on as a late substitute on Wednesday evening, as City progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Swansea City initially looked set to stun Pep Guardiola's team when Gonçalo Franco put them ahead in the 12th minute.

However, by the interval, Manchester City had equalised courtesy of Jeremy Doku. Further goals in the second half from Omar Marmoush and Ryan Cherki sealed the deal for City. They will now go head-to-head with Brentford in the quarter-finals, with the match slated for December.

Foden has two goals and two assists in 11 appearances for City this season. Like fellow big names Jack Grealish, Jude Bellingham, he missed out on selection for England's most recent squad for the October internationals against Wales and Latvia, with Thomas Tuchel opting to stick with the players who performed well the previous month.
