Marcus Rashford has been in fine form for Barcelona during his loan spell, but the England international will be disappointed after suffering a blow on Sunday
Marcus Rashford has sent out a rallying cry to his Barcelona teammates after suffering a setback during his loan spell with the Spanish giants. The Manchester United forward, who moved to Barcelona on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, has been in fine form for the La Liga side, netting five goals and providing seven assists.
However, Rashford and his team were dealt a blow over the weekend when they lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico, leaving them trailing by five points at the top of the Spanish top-flight standings.
Despite setting up Fermin Lopez for Barcelona's only goal, Rashford couldn't prevent his side from losing, with Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham scoring for Madrid, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Following the defeat, Rashford took to Instagram to share a message with his 21.3 million followers. "Clearly, not the result that we wanted yesterday. It's a marathon not a sprint and we will keep fighting," Rashford wrote, urging his teammates to bounce back from the loss.
Barcelona assistant head-coach Marcus Sorg spoke after the defeat to Madrid, explaining how mistakes cost the reigning La Liga champions against their bitter rivals.
"I think in the end, we made more mistakes than we're used to," Sorg said. "It's true that our defensive level was very low. In the final third, our penetration power did not allow us to create more chances."
Rashford will have another chance to shine for Barcelona on Sunday when they take on Elche in La Liga, hoping to narrow the five-point gap with Madrid.
It was at the start of the summer when Rashford expressed a desire to leave United after spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. No permanent move could materialise, but the Red Devils were able to agree a deal with Barcelona for Rashford to spend the campaign on loan until the summer of 2026.
