Kylian Mbappe earns Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid status after El Clasico heroics vs Barcelona

The French talisman netted his 11th goal for Real Madrid in just 10 La Liga appearances - but his latest strike against Barcelona carried extra weight

Last week, Erling Haaland equalled a record set by Cristiano Ronaldo during his Real Madrid days - but now, it was Kylian Mbappe's turn to join footballing royalty in Sunday's El Clasico.

Los Blancos' talisman opened the scoring in their 2-1 triumph over Barcelona at the Bernabeu, with Mbappe adding a composed finish after a slick assist from Jude Bellingham.

Mbappe etched his name into El Clasico history, becoming only the third player to score in four consecutive clashes - joining legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. Back in 2012, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner netted seven times in just six games against Barca.

Ronaldinho, for his part, netted four goals in five El Clasico appearances between 2004 and 2006. Barcelona clawed their way back through Fermin Lopez, who latched onto a low cross from Marcus Rashford to level the score.

But Xabi Alonso's men restored their lead just before the break and nearly added a third, only for it to be ruled out. The win pushes Real Madrid five points clear at the top of La Liga.

Barcelona's night went from bad to worse in stoppage time when Pedri received marching orders after picking up a second yellow for a foul on Aurelien Tchouameni.

Taking to Instagram after the game, he shared a number of pictures from the encounter along the caption: "The Clasico is ours. Big energy from the team. Hala Madrid."

Mbappe continued to torment the Catalans - his latest strike marks 12 goals in just nine appearances against Hansi Flick's team.

He's closing in on the 21st-century record for most goals against them, currently held by Ronaldo, who scored 20 in 34 matches while Karim Benzema sits between them with 16 goals in 46 outings.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has scored 950 goals in his career after scoring for Al Nassr in their 2-0 win over Al-Hazm. "Happy to help the team win and hit 950 goals! Always hungry for more!," the Portugal legend wrote on social media.
