Tyson Fury comeback teased as Oleksandr Usyk rematch rumours continue - 'We will see'
Tyson Fury has not fought since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch last December, but many in the boxing world have been speculating over a possible comeback for 'the Gypsy King'
The President of the World Boxing Council has opened the door to Tyson Fury making a return to the ring. The former heavyweight world champion has previously expressed his intention to fight Oleksandr Usyk in a proposed trilogy showdown at Wembley Stadium.
Fury hung up his gloves in January – just one month after his unanimous-decision defeat to the Ukrainian in their second fight. Usyk also claimed victory in the first fight in May 2024 by split decision, and there are reports that Fury may eventually make a comeback.
However, it seems more likely that Usyk will next face Fabio Wardley, following the British boxer's surprising win over Joseph Parker on Saturday at London's O2 Arena. Speaking after the fight, Fury's father, John, has urged his son to stay retired.
And Mauricio Sulaiman has now had his say on a potential return to the ring for Fury – revealing that the Manchester-born fighter would be welcomed back.
"He’s a tremendous champion, a great person, a great family man," he said, via Hard Rock Bet.
"There’s speculation about whether he will return or not. I saw him a couple of days ago, posting that he’s very happy being retired, enjoying life as a family man, etc. We will see.
"If he decides to return, the WBC, of course, will welcome him. He has been a tremendous champion for the WBC and for boxing.
"However, if he decides to stay retired, that’s also a great decision. He has a lot of money, a beautiful family, and a happy life to live forever."
Despite rumours of a possible comeback next year, Tyson recently declared the 'Gypsy King is dead', insisting he will never fight again, not even if offered £1billion.
"Boxing just doesn't take any prisoners," he told FurociTV. "It only takes casualties. So for me to be sat here with all my faculties in order, won every belt, made loads of money and not got a scratch on me.
"I've done really well there. But I don't want to tempt fate. How many times can you go back to the well before you end up with brain damage or can't walk in a straight line? It'd be pointless then."
Fury also admitted that the competitive fire that once drove him to the top has burned out. He added: "The Gypsy King was a different animal.
"That person only came alive around the big events, the massive fights. But I'm not doing any boxing anymore. The Gypsy King is dead now."
